The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute recently unveiled the theme for the highly anticipated 2024 Met Gala.
In an announcement made by Vogue on Wednesday, the upcoming fashion gala, which is held annually on the first Monday in May and attracts A-list celebrities from various industries, will be centered around the concept of “Sleeping Beauty’s Reawakening Fashion.”
The exhibition promises to showcase a stunning collection of approximately 250 items, spanning over 400 years of history.
Among the notable pieces featured in the exhibit is an exquisite 1877 Charles Frederick Worth silk satin ball gown, along with other significant works that have left their mark on the fashion world.
From a 17th-century English Elizabethan era bodice to contemporary designs by renowned fashion icons like Philip Lim, Stella McCartney, and Connor Ives, the walkthrough will offer visitors a captivating journey through time.
Additionally, the exhibit will include creations by legendary names such as Elsa Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, and Hubert DiGiovinci.
However, there is one celebrity who may not receive an invitation to the prestigious event.
Reports suggest that Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, won’t be among the guests at the Met Gala 2024.
Nevertheless, sources close to her have revealed that Meghan is determined to attend and has even approached her representatives at WME (William Morris Endeavor) to secure a ticket for her.
With the theme revolving around Sleeping Beauty’s Fashion, Meghan envisions herself as a princess, complete with a regal attire and a tiara.
If Meghan’s negotiations prove successful, she plans to don a dress featuring a rose-shaped collar that delicately frames her face, resembling the bud of a rose.
Undoubtedly, this idea has piqued interest, but the question remains as to which fashion brand would be willing to take a chance on Meghan.
Furthermore, it poses a challenge for WME to facilitate her attendance, given that the event’s organizer, Anna Wintour, has long blacklisted both Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry.
Since 2019, Anna has refrained from commenting on the couple, emphasizing her loyalty to the monarchy.
It is highly unlikely that she would make an exception for Meghan, as she did for the Kardashians in the past.
The organizers of the Met Gala have their sights set on securing the attendance of Princess Kate and Prince William.
If Meghan were to be present, it would inevitably lead to photographs of other invitees alongside her, creating the illusion of familiarity or contemporariness.
Even those simply passing by might find themselves inadvertently included in group pictures, a situation they may wish to avoid but cannot politely decline.
As long as Dame Anna Wintour remains in charge, Meghan’s chances of receiving an invitation seem slim, considering Wintour’s unwavering support for the monarchy.
Interestingly, the absence of Prince Harry and Meghan from high-profile Hollywood events raises another intriguing question.
According to an article published by a pro-Harry and Meghan publication, Hollywood publicists are reluctant to invite the couple, fearing that they would overshadow everyone else in attendance.
Despite their eagerness to participate in such events, as evidenced by their previous lackluster appearances, the couple seems to have encountered resistance within the industry.
Mark your calendars for Monday, May 6th, 2024, when the 2024 Met Gala will take place in New York City.
