The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, might be in for a comedic smackdown at the 2023 Oscars.
According to PR expert and founder of The Moment Lab, Matt Yanofsky, it is believed that big names at the ceremony, scheduled for this Sunday, March 12th in Los Angeles, could roast the royal couple.
This speculation comes in the wake of a scathing South Park episode that not-so-subtly mocked them.
Despite their privacy-conscious nature, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may still find themselves referenced on Hollywood’s grandest night.
“Meghan and Harry are no longer untouchable in the US,” said PR guru Matt Yanofsky, who runs marketing and publicity agents The Moment Lab.
He believes that thanks to South Park’s unapologetic satire, the famous couple may become the b*tt of jokes at the 95th annual Academy Awards.
Yanofsky pointed out that South Park has become a cultural phenomenon, fearlessly addressing topics that others shy away from.
The episode in question received widespread acclaim, with many considering it pure gold.
In the episode, a couple resembling the royals moves next door to Kyle, continuing their quest for privacy while secretly craving attention.
“By satirizing the couple, South Park has given others permission to finally express what they truly think about Meghan and Harry,” added Matt Yanofsky.
He drew a parallel with Chris Rock’s stand-up special, highlighting that the couple’s untouchable status in the US has diminished.
As for their reception at the Oscars, Yanofsky noted, “The Oscars, though, is the most out-of-touch audience in Hollywood.
It’s 50-50 if they joke about the couple or start mocking Meghan and Harry in five years.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens.”
Despite their dwindling popularity, it remains unclear whether the Sussexes are concerned about becoming the target of potential jokes at the Oscars.
The couple was never invited to the prestigious event and will likely never be, as they are deemed irrelevant to the film industry.
They lack current, past, or future projects in the industry and are not recognized as film or recording stars working on soundtracks.
This is not the first time Prince Harry has been the subject of comedic jabs.
Jimmy Kimmel, the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live, mocked the Duke of Sussex by unveiling a rhyming children’s book on his show, titled “The Prince and the p-nis.”
Kimmel playfully described a fictional incident at the chilly North Pole, where a young codger froze his “wee todger” in the snow.
The parody book even featured Princess Diana appearing from a cloud to offer cream for Harry’s frostbitten body part.
While the parody book was met with laughter from the audience, it is important to note that the events depicted did not actually occur.
The book humorously referred to Sir Sigmund Freud and hinted at possible future jokes about Prince Harry at the upcoming Oscars.
As the 2023 Oscars approach, all eyes will be on whether the comedic hosts and presenters take aim at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Whether they face a roast or further mockery, it is evident that the couple’s once untouchable status in the US has been eroded, thanks to South Park’s irreverent portrayal and the willingness of others to express their thoughts on the famous duo.
