Good morning!
Well, at least it is for me right now.
I’m not certain what time it is where you are, but let’s kick things off with a warm greeting.
Today, I’m diving into a new adventure that I briefly mentioned in previous videos—a fresh craft that has me buzzing with excitement.
But first, let’s talk about breakfast.
This morning’s meal consists of turkey bacon, some delicious fruit, and a touch of peach preserves spread over spelt sourdough bread that I’ve been keeping in the freezer.
It’s pretty tasty, even if it’s not freshly baked.
There’s something about sourdough that just hits the spot, though I can’t help but think how much better it would be if I made it myself.
But hey, we work with what we have!
As I enjoy my breakfast, I can’t shake the thought of those affected by Hurricane Helene and the impending threat of Hurricane Milton making its way toward Florida.
By the time this video is up, the storm may have already hit or passed, but my heart goes out to everyone facing these challenges.
The community spirit I’ve seen in Western North Carolina is truly inspiring—neighbors helping neighbors, private citizens volunteering their time and resources, even using helicopters to deliver supplies.
It’s heartwarming to witness such selflessness during tough times.
Finishing up my meal, I can’t help but feel a twinge of guilt.
Here I am, enjoying a nice breakfast, while many others are struggling without basic necessities.
It’s a reminder of the importance of empathy and the power of prayer for those in dire situations.
We can always do our part, whether through prayers or direct support.
Now, onto the fun part!
I recently purchased a speedball block printing kit and am eager to dive into this new hobby.
The kit has everything I need to get started, including a linoleum block and various carving tools.
I’ve even sketched a simple flower design as my first project.
While the flower might be a bit ambitious, I’m ready to take on the challenge.
Carving into the block is trickier than I anticipated, especially since the rubber is quite soft.
I’ve got my pencil, sharpie, and ink ready to go, but it’s all about finding the right technique.
I’m learning that starting simple might be the best approach; perhaps a more basic design will allow me to build confidence as I go.
As I carve, I can’t help but think about the importance of practice.
Anyone who has mastered a skill knows that you have to start somewhere, and often that means making mistakes along the way.
I’ve watched a couple of YouTube tutorials, and now it’s my turn to experiment.
Even if the outcome isn’t perfect, it’s all part of the learning experience.
After some trial and error, I finally manage to roll out the ink and prepare for my first print.
The anticipation is palpable!
I know that applying even pressure is crucial, and I’m excited to see what happens.
Will my print turn out as envisioned, or will it be a complete flop?
Either way, I’m ready to embrace the outcome.
And there it is—my very first block print!
Admittedly, it’s a bit rough around the edges, but it’s mine.
I can see the potential for improvement, and that’s what excites me.
With practice, I can envision creating designs for shirts or bags, perhaps even personalized gifts for friends and family.
Reflecting on this creative journey, I’m reminded of how important it is to explore new avenues and hobbies.
It’s not just about the final product; it’s about the joy of the process and the lessons learned along the way.
Plus, it’s a fantastic way to unwind and tap into my artistic side.
As I wrap up this little adventure, I’m also reminded of the ongoing need for compassion and support for those affected by recent hurricanes.
Let’s continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
Life may throw us challenges, but it’s how we respond that truly matters.
Until next time, take care and keep creating!
