Lady Louise Windsor, who celebrates her 20th birthday today, may be stepping up her involvement in royal duties, according to a royal expert.
The youngest granddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth has spent the past few years in the royal spotlight and is now prepared to assist her cousin, Prince George, after completing her studies.
Currently studying English at the University of St Andrews, the same institution attended by the Prince and Princess of Wales in the early 2000s, Lady Louise could potentially deviate from her original plans and embrace a more active role within the royal family.
Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal insider, shared his insights in an interview with Express.co.uk.
He suggested that Lady Louise, the only daughter of Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie, may be ready to take on significant royal duties.
Although she has rarely been in the public eye, making only occasional appearances at events such as the King’s coronation in May, there are growing questions about whether she and other members of the royal family will assume more responsibilities as the older generation ages, despite being 16th in line to the throne.
Fitzwilliams further revealed that Lady Louise, born on November 8, is passionate about studying English at St Andrews and enjoys following in her late grandfather Prince Philip’s footsteps, including going on go-kart trips.
While her future plans, as disclosed by her mother, the Duchess of Edinburgh, in 2020, did not include royal duties, Fitzwilliams believes that this could change.
He noted that the phrase “move on” is being used less frequently when discussing potential downsizing of the monarchy, implying that Lady Louise’s future as a royal is indeed possible.
Nonetheless, Fitzwilliams emphasized that she would complete her studies without unnecessary media attention.
In addition, Fitzwilliams drew attention to Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, stating that they too could potentially adopt a similar mix of charity work and unofficial attendance at royal events.
However, he acknowledged that their official presence might be met with controversy due to their father’s past indiscretions.
Currently, the royal family has only four members under the age of 70, namely the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Fitzwilliams highlighted that until Prince George and his siblings fulfill their royal duties, it is unlikely that the number of working royals under the age of 70 will increase.
Lady Louise Windsor has previously been mentioned as a potential future figurehead for Prince George, who is currently second in line to the throne.
Fitzwilliams expressed that the situation is unlikely to change until Prince George and his siblings complete their own royal obligations.
