In a delightful twist of fate, Prince William welcomed an unexpected guest during his final day in South Africa following the fourth annual Earthshot Prize Awards.
On Thursday, the Prince of Wales was spotted enjoying a traditional South African barbecue, or “Braai,” at Cock Bay Harbour near Cape Town, alongside none other than supermodel Heidi Klum.
Dressed in a relaxed outfit, Klum sported a loose black t-shirt paired with a navy blue baseball cap emblazoned with the logo of Abalube, a tech brand dedicated to aiding small fishing communities in tracking their catch data.
The gathering aimed to shed light on sustainable fishing practices, a cause close to William’s heart.
According to reports from People, it was Prince William who extended the invitation to Klum, hoping to deepen her understanding of sustainable fishing initiatives.
The beach picnic also featured model Winnie Harlow and actor Billy Porter, creating a star-studded atmosphere by the sea.
The night prior, Klum dazzled attendees at the 2024 Earthshot Awards, donning a striking one-shoulder orange gown that flowed elegantly as she moved.
During the event, she shared her enthusiasm with People, expressing how much she had learned about William’s environmental projects.
“I had no idea there were sustainable fishing efforts out there,” she remarked, clearly intrigued by the complexities of the subject.
“I knew our waters were polluted and that fish populations were declining, but I wasn’t aware of the specifics of sustainable fishing,” Klum continued.
Her eagerness to contribute positively to the environment was palpable as she emphasized, “We all have to do our part.”
As Prince William wrapped up his visit, he and Klum ventured to Kallik Bay Harbour, accompanied by Harlow and Porter.
The group engaged in discussions about the significance of the Earthshot Prize and its mission to tackle pressing environmental issues.
William arrived at Cork Bay via lifeboat, having previously met with members of the National Sea Rescue Institute.
The local community greeted him with enthusiasm, and he took the opportunity to mingle with residents, embarking on an unplanned walkabout along the beach.
Among the locals was Kate Wardle, 47, who presented the prince with some heartfelt gifts.
She shared, “I bought beaded key rings from a local lady, and I thought they’d be a nice gesture.” The key rings, adorned with initials W and C, were meant for William and his children.
Wardle recounted the moment, saying, “I told him they were here for him if he wanted them.
