In a touching display of compassion, Prince William and Princess Catherine have stepped in to assist a Peckham food bank that recently fell victim to a devastating theft.
The Southwark food bank, which serves as a lifeline for numerous families, was hit hard when thieves broke in during the early hours of Sunday, September 8, making off with thousands of pounds worth of food and essential supplies.
The incident has left many in the community reeling, as the food bank plays a crucial role in alleviating hunger and providing support to those in need.
Christian Charity Peckham, which operates the food bank, expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming response from the public, especially highlighting the royal couple’s generous private donation aimed at aiding their recovery efforts.
Peter Edwards, the chief executive of the South London food bank, shared his thoughts on the situation, noting how heartened he felt by the wave of generosity from the community.
He revealed that around £3,000 worth of food, hygiene products, and even a laptop were stolen during the break-in, leaving a significant gap in their resources.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the food bank publicly acknowledged the support received, thanking Kensington Royal for their contribution.
The message conveyed a sense of hope, stating, “All at Can 121A have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from across society.” It appears that food stocks are now on the mend, thanks to the collective efforts of the community.
This isn’t the first time the royal couple has extended their hands to help those in distress.
Back in July, they made a private donation to assist victims of Hurricane Beryl, showcasing their commitment to humanitarian causes.
