Adam Driver, renowned for his roles in Star Wars and Marriage Story, made his fourth appearance as a host on Saturday Night Live on December 9, 2023.
During this episode, he delivered one of the most unforgettable sketches of the season.
In a parody of the reality show The First 48, Driver portrayed a baby who became a suspect in a murder case during his first flight.
This sketch took a humorous jab at Meghan Markle, the former royal who has faced accusations of feigning her pregnancy and utilizing a surrogate to carry her son Archie.
The sketch commenced with a voiceover stating, “The first 48 hours of any homicide investigation are crucial.
95% of cases are solved within that time.
These are their stories.”
The scene then transitioned to a plane, where two detectives, played by Kenan Thompson and Eggo Wodom, were questioning passengers about a deceased individual discovered in the bathroom.
Approaching a couple, portrayed by Beck Bennett and Cecily Strong, who were holding a baby (played by Driver) in a carrier, the detectives inquired if they had witnessed anything suspicious.
The couple denied any knowledge.
Subsequently, the detectives inquired about their baby, and the couple introduced him as Archie.
However, the detectives noticed that the baby appeared unusually large and hairy, prompting them to question his age.
Although the couple claimed he was six months old, the detectives remained skeptical.
To validate their suspicions, the detectives requested to see the baby’s passport.
Reluctantly, the couple handed them a counterfeit document featuring Driver’s face and the name “Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor.”
Realizing that the baby was not an actual infant but rather a grown man disguised as one, the detectives accused the couple of being impostors attempting to smuggle something onto the plane.
With hesitation, the couple removed the baby from the carrier, unveiling Driver dressed in a diaper and bonnet while wielding a knife.
Confessing to the crime, he admitted to stabbing the victim in the bathroom, attributing his actions to a short temper.
Shocked and disgusted, the detectives questioned his motive.
Driver revealed that he was infuriated because the victim had taken the last bag of peanuts and, being allergic to peanuts himself, he wanted to ensure no one else could enjoy them.
He even offered the detectives his toys and asked if they wanted to play with him.
Furthermore, he requested a diaper change, asking them to wipe his butt.
Unwilling to comply, the detectives promptly arrested Driver and the couple, leading them off the plane in handcuffs.
In a heart-wrenching moment, Driver broke down in tears, yearning for his “mommy.”
He claimed his mother to be Meghan Markle, stating that she had hired him to pose as her baby.
Driver disclosed that he had been paid a substantial amount of money but had never met his alleged father, Prince Harry.
Expressing his desire to meet Harry someday, he mentioned hearing positive things about him.
The sketch concluded with the voiceover announcing that the case had been resolved within 47 hours, resulting in a life sentence for the baby and deportation to Canada for the couple.
However, Meghan Markle remained elusive, leaving viewers with a photo of her holding Driver as a baby, accompanied by the caption, “Have you seen this woman?”
This sketch served as a hilarious and savage mockery of Markle, who has faced numerous conspiracy theories and rumors since her marriage to Harry and departure from the royal family.
Accusations of faking her pregnancy and doubts surrounding Archie’s biological parentage have circulated widely.
Some even speculate that Archie may not be a real child but rather a doll, robot, or hologram.
Additionally, the sketch showcased Driver’s comedic prowess as he flawlessly embodied the expressions, voice, and mannerisms of a baby with a murderous streak.
His delivery of humorous lines and gestures further solidified his talent.
The chemistry between Driver and his fellow cast members, particularly Thompson and Wadham who portrayed the baffled and disgusted detectives, was evident.
Once again, Driver proved himself to be one of the most exceptional hosts in SNL history, fearlessly parodying anyone, including himself.
