Adam Driver, the renowned actor known for his roles in Star Wars and Marriage Story, delivered a memorable performance on Saturday Night Live (SNL) on December 9, 2023.
Hosting the show for the fourth time, Driver showcased his comedic skills in a sketch that playfully mocked Meghan Markle.
The sketch, a parody of the reality show The First 48, featured Driver portraying a baby who becomes a murder suspect during his first flight.
Opening with a voiceover emphasizing the crucial first 48 hours of any homicide investigation, where 95% of cases are typically resolved, the scene transitioned to an airplane.
Two detectives, played by Kenan Thompson and Iko Nwodim, began questioning passengers about a deceased individual found in the bathroom.
Approaching a couple, portrayed by Beck Bennett and Cicely Strong, who were holding a baby played by Driver in a carrier, the detectives inquired if they had noticed anything suspicious.
Although the couple denied witnessing anything unusual, they revealed their baby’s name as Archie.
The detectives couldn’t help but notice that the baby appeared unusually large and hairy for a six-month-old infant.
Growing skeptical, the detectives requested the baby’s passport.
To their surprise, the couple provided a counterfeit document featuring Driver’s face and the name Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
Realizing that the baby was not an ordinary infant but a grown man in disguise, the detectives accused the couple of being imposters attempting to smuggle something onto the plane.
When asked to remove the baby from the carrier, the couple hesitated.
However, when Driver emerged, he was wearing a diaper, a bonnet, and even held a knife.
Shockingly, he confessed to being the murderer, explaining that his crime was driven by anger over someone taking the last bag of peanuts.
Driver claimed to have a peanut allergy and wanted to ensure no one else could enjoy them.
Bizarrely, he invited the detectives to play with him, requested a diaper change, and even asked them to wipe his backside.
Unfazed by Driver’s peculiar behavior, the detectives promptly apprehended him and the couple, escorting them off the plane in handcuffs.
As Driver began crying, he made a shocking claim that Meghan Markle was his mother and had hired him to pretend to be her baby.
He alleged receiving a substantial payment but had never met his father, Prince Harry.
Expressing a desire to meet Harry someday, Driver mentioned hearing that he was a nice guy.
The sketch concluded with a voiceover announcing the closure of the case within 47 hours.
The “baby” received a life sentence in prison, while the couple was deported to Canada.
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle remained elusive, prompting a humorous caption beneath a photo of Markle holding Driver in his baby disguise, asking, “Have you seen this woman?”
This SNL sketch expertly blended humor with a satirical take on the conspiracy theories and rumors surrounding Meghan Markle’s pregnancy and Archie’s origins.
Adam Driver’s comedic prowess was on full display as he embodied the facial expressions, voice, and body language of a baby while delivering witty lines and gestures.
His chemistry with fellow cast members, particularly Thompson and Nwodim, who portrayed the bewildered and repulsed detectives, added to the sketch’s comedic brilliance.
In essence, Driver’s performance reaffirmed his status as one of SNL’s finest hosts, showcasing his ability to playfully lampoon even the most high-profile figures, including himself.
