Amal recently made headlines for her questionable act of donating second-hand droopy flowers to cancer patients, resulting in allergic reactions.
The incident traces back to her extravagant $500,000 baby shower in New York, where she faced heavy criticism for her lavish spending, including taking a private jet for the occasion.
In an attempt to redeem herself, it came to light that she decided to donate the leftover flowers from the event to a charity that distributed them to hospices and children’s wards.
However, the gesture backfired as the sight of wilted flowers being given to sick children only added to the negative publicity.
After her New York City baby shower in 2019, organized by her close friends, Amal generously donated the entire floral arrangement to charity.
Jennifer Grove, the CEO of Repeat Roses, a flower recycling organization, shared that she received emails from Amal requesting the flowers be delivered to hospitals and care centers to uplift the spirits of those in need.
The flowers were specifically gifted to pediatric cancer patients at Ronald McDonald House Charities of New York, as well as to cancer patients at Hope Lodge and individuals in care at Unique People Services.
Despite Amal’s intentions, Kelly Dolan, president and CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities, expressed anger upon discovering the source of the flowers sent by Amal.
The use of second-hand flowers was deemed careless and disrespectful, especially considering that most children’s hospitals prohibit flowers in patient rooms due to potential allergies.
Even a small amount of unfamiliar pollen can trigger allergic reactions in children, leading to breathing difficulties.
Following the controversial incident, Manager Miller acknowledged the efforts of everyone involved in the event, highlighting the dessert buffet and entertaining baby shower activities.
He particularly praised Repeat Roses for their dedication to repurposing event flowers.
An insider revealed that Amal was cautioned after the incident, prompting the removal of all flowers from the hospital premises.
Amal’s controversial decision also impacted some of the high-profile guests she had invited to participate in the project, such as Amar Clooney.
Despite Amar’s early arrival and eagerness to contribute to the charitable event, concerns arose regarding the true origin of the flowers being undisclosed.
Notably, other close friends of Amal, including Serena Williams, Abigail Spencer, and Jessica Mulroney, also attended the event at the Mark Hotel.
Amar Clooney made a striking appearance at the event, donning a vibrant red silk jumpsuit by Sergio Hudson and exuding confidence despite the snowy weather conditions.
However, this incident may linger as a regrettable memory for Amar, who has since distanced herself from Amal and aligned more closely with the British Royal Family and charitable endeavors.
This shift in allegiance signifies the repercussions of Amal’s controversial choice regarding the flower donations.
This incident is not the first time Amal has been involved in floral donations.
Following her marriage to Prince Harry, the flowers from their wedding ceremony at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle were repurposed and sent to St Joseph’s Hospice in London.
