Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have faced a challenging year, and their efforts to spread holiday joy have hit a roadblock.
In their Archwell Foundation newsletter, they unveiled their 2023 holiday card, which featured a picture of the couple taken at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Invictus Games.
Meghan donned a stunning column gown from Cult Gea, adorned with turquoise floral cutout details, while Harry wore a tailored dark blue suit with a black button-down.
However, their decision to exclude their children from the photo raised eyebrows among their followers.
Critics ridiculed the Harkles for choosing an earlier November photo over a more recent one, accusing them of being self-centered and attention-seeking.
But the most surprising blow came from British Vogue magazine, which rejected Meghan’s request to feature their Christmas card on its cover.
Despite Meghan’s representative offering to pay the fee, Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue, ignored the demand.
This rejection is seen as an attempt by Vogue to avoid getting involved in the tensions between the British royal family and the Sussexes.
Placing Meghan and Harry on a British magazine cover would undoubtedly spark outrage among the British public.
The desire to mend their relationship with King Charles may have motivated Meghan’s request to appear on the cover of British Vogue.
In 2019, Meghan became the first guest editor of Vogue’s September issue, where she featured 15 women she admired.
However, the issue received criticism for being overly political, preachy, and self-indulgent.
Some of the women Meghan chose, such as activist Greta Thunberg and actress Jameela Jamil, had clashed with the royal family or the British public.
Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Edward Enninful, a close friend of Meghan, defended the issue as a bold and courageous endeavor.
This rejection from Vogue comes at a time when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have faced significant setbacks in their business ventures.
According to royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, 2023 has been the worst year for the couple professionally, despite a few commercial successes.
Schofield stated, “This is not a video that they typically release around this time.
They usually release this video in January as a recap of everything they’ve done.
I think that they’re trying to distract from the fact that everyone’s recognizing that they’ve failed hard this year and they don’t want to move into 2024 with this stamp of losers on their foreheads.”
While Prince Harry’s memoir, “Spare,” became the fastest-selling non-fiction book of all time, and the Archwell Foundation received £950,000 in donations, their financial success pales in comparison to the previous year’s £7.1 million.
The Hollywood Reporter even dubbed them the biggest losers of 2023.
As Meghan and Harry continue to navigate their post-royal lives, their attempts to regain public favor and find success have encountered obstacles.
The rejection from British Vogue serves as a reminder that their journey is not without challenges, and they must navigate carefully to avoid further controversy and criticism.
