In a surprising turn of events, an insider has revealed that the titles of Prince Archie Harrison and Princess Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor will need to be earned before King Charles III officially confirms their new roles.
Despite being entitled to use princely titles as grandchildren of the monarch in the male line, the children of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have yet to have their titles recognized on the royal family’s official website.
The insider, speaking exclusively to Vanity Fair, explained that the issue of the titles has remained unresolved due to the ongoing feud between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the royal family.
The source emphasized that the titles need to be earned, and the royals need assurance that Harry and Meghan will not damage the reputation of the family.
While the titles of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis of Wales have been included in the updated line of succession, Archie and Lilibet’s titles have not.
King Charles III is reportedly considering the future roles of his grandchildren and weighing his options in light of the ongoing attacks on the institution by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex since their departure in 2020.
Another insider informed Vanity Fair that any decision regarding the grandchildren will be made once Harry and Meghan cease their public criticisms of the palace.
The king wants to ensure that any decision he makes will withstand any future actions from either side.
Currently, they are not in a position where such a decision can be made confidently.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex previously mentioned a dispute over Archie’s title after his birth in May 2019 as a significant factor in their decision to step back from the royal family.
In their interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan stated that they did not want Archie to have a prince title, deviating from protocol, and that he would not receive security.
She further revealed concerns about how dark his skin might be when he was born.
However, Prince Harry denied accusing members of the royal family of making racist comments about his son’s skin color.
During an interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby, when asked about the accusations of racism, Harry responded, “No, I didn’t.
The British press said that, did Meghan ever mention they were racist?
She said there were troubling comments about it.”
Despite the ongoing controversy, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were recognized by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Organization in November 2022 for their efforts in exposing structural racism within the royal family.
The king is proceeding with caution and reflection, understanding that there is no need to rush a decision.
However, as the insider concluded, the king will eventually have to make a decision.
Yet, due to the unpredictable nature of the Sussexes’ actions, it is challenging to make any firm decisions at this stage.
The future of Archie and Lilibet’s titles remains uncertain, but one thing is certain—the world is closely watching as the royal family navigates this unprecedented situation.
