Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, despite stepping down from the Royal Family three years ago, have retained their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles.
However, a Conservative MP is now seeking to introduce a bill that would strip them of these titles.
The couple was bestowed the Sussex Dukedom on their wedding day by Queen Elizabeth II, but only Parliament has the authority to revoke such titles.
Bob Seeley, the Tory MP for the Isle of Wight, plans to bring forward legislation to achieve this.
He has been critical of the Sussexes in the past, accusing Prince Harry of attacking important British institutions and publicly trashing his own family for personal gain.
In a tweet last December, Seeley stated that Prince Harry should voluntarily relinquish his titles, and if he refuses, Parliament should take action to remove them.
Seeley believes that if Prince Harry dislikes the monarchy, he should not be a part of it, and should not use his titles to undermine the institution.
According to royal commentator Jonathan Sasserdoti, Seeley has expressed his intention to draft the bill and expects it to be introduced sometime in mid-February.
Seeley plans to present a private member’s bill that would allow for a vote to amend the 1917 Titles Deprivation Act.
This act was previously used to strip the German royal family of their UK titles during the First World War.
It is noteworthy that an MP feels so strongly about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s actions that he wants to utilize the same law to remove their titles, considering the level of treachery seen during that time.
