Thousands of taxpayers in British Columbia have taken to the streets in protest after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that his government would pledge $15 million to support Meghan Markle’s new project with the Invictus Games.
The sporting event, founded by her husband Prince Harry, aims to empower wounded veterans through adaptive winter sports.
While Trudeau believes that hosting the first Invictus Games featuring these sports will be uniquely Canadian, many taxpayers are not pleased with what they see as a misuse of public funds.
Critics argue that the $15 million could have been better allocated to address pressing issues such as healthcare, education, and environmental concerns.
They view Meghan Markle as a menace to Canada, accusing her of causing trouble since she moved to the country with Prince Harry.
They label her a hypocrite, claiming that her extravagant lifestyle contradicts her advocacy for social justice and climate change.
One anonymous protester stated, “She is a fame-hungry opportunist who uses the Invictus Games as a platform to promote herself and her Netflix deal.
She does not deserve a single cent of our hard-earned money.”
The protesters also express their frustration with Trudeau, perceiving him as a weak leader who panders to celebrities and foreign interests.
They feel betrayed by his support for Harry and Meghan, who have publicly criticized the royal family and accused them of racism and neglect.
Additionally, they question Trudeau’s motives for backing the Invictus Games, which will be held in Vancouver in 2024, just before the next federal election.
According to the protesters, Trudeau’s actions are an attempt to impress Harry and Meghan, hoping they will endorse him in the upcoming election.
They believe he is also trying to appease the woke crowd by supporting a biracial woman who claims to be a victim of oppression.
The protesters fear that Trudeau’s strategy will backfire, alienating the majority of Canadians who respect the Queen and the royal family.
They worry about Canada becoming a colony of Hollywood.
The protests have gained momentum on social media, with many Canadians voicing their opposition to Trudeau’s decision.
A petition on Change.org titled “Stop Trudeau from giving $16 million to Meghan Markle” has already garnered over 100,000 signatures.
The petition demands that Prime Minister Trudeau cancel his pledge and redirect the funds to more urgent causes that benefit Canadians.
It also calls for an apology to the Queen and the royal family, as well as the revocation of Harry and Meghan’s honorary Canadian citizenship.
Trudeau has yet to respond to the protests or the petition, but his spokesperson reaffirmed his support for the Invictus Games, emphasizing that they reflect Canada’s diversity and inclusivity.
The spokesperson also stated that Trudeau respects Harry and Meghan’s decision to step back from their royal duties and pursue their own projects, expressing hope that Canadians will welcome them warmly.
While Harry and Meghan have not commented on the controversy, sources close to them indicate that they are grateful for Trudeau’s support and look forward to bringing the Invictus Games to Canada.
These sources also mention that the couple remains focused on their work and family, seemingly unfazed by the protests and petition.
Scheduled to take place in Vancouver from February 18 to 24, 2024, the Invictus Games will feature over 500 competitors from 20 countries participating in various sports, including skiing, snowboarding, ice hockey, curling, and wheelchair basketball.
Alongside the athletic events, cultural and educational activities such as concerts, workshops, and exhibitions will enrich the experience for both participants and spectators.
