Prince George and Princess Charlotte of Wales made a poignant appearance at the funeral of their great-grandmother, the Queen, on Monday, September 19.
The nine-year-old future king and his seven-year-old sister walked behind the Queen’s coffin during the procession at Westminster Abbey.
Their younger brother, Prince Louis, aged four, was deemed too young to attend.
The decision for George and Charlotte to attend the funeral was uncertain, but royal fans have commended their bravery in being present at the ceremony.
Viewers were moved as George wiped away his tears during the service, referring to their great-grandmother as “Gangan.”
The young royals sat in the front row alongside their parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine.
During the emotional service, Kate was captured in a touching moment, placing her hand on George’s knee to offer him reassurance.
Another heartwarming gesture came from Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, who placed her hand on Prince George’s shoulder as the royals arrived.
George and Charlotte are also expected to attend the televised committal service at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle at 4 pm.
Following this, a private service will be held for senior members of the royal family.
The Queen’s coffin will then be transported from Westminster Abbey to Windsor Castle, where she will be reunited with her late husband.
Thousands of well-wishers lined the streets along the route, with some even camping overnight on the moor in hopes of catching a glimpse of the procession.
