Catherine, the new Princess of Wales, paid tribute to the Queen today by wearing her late grandmother-in-law’s diamond and pearl drop earrings.
The 40-year-old Duchess of Cambridge joined Prince William in Sandringham to look at the floral tributes that had been left in honor of the Queen, who passed away last Thursday at the age of 96 in Balmoral.
Arriving in Norfolk, the Duchess looked deep in thought as she participated in the walkabout.
She wore a smart black coat paired with a black dress for the occasion, completing her outfit with a small black handbag.
To honor the Queen, Catherine adorned herself with a set of the Queen’s pearl earrings, which she has worn on various occasions in the past, including when she received the Queen’s coffin at Buckingham Palace earlier this week.
During their visit to Sandringham, the Royal couple took their time to observe the sea of floral tributes.
Prince William pointed out individual cards and objects, engaging in a solemn moment of reflection.
It has been a hectic period for Catherine, who recently moved her family to a new home in Windsor and accompanied her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, on their first day of school last week.
Yesterday, she stood by her husband’s side, along with other senior royals, as they paid their respects to the Queen during the funeral procession in central London.
The pearl earrings worn by Catherine are considered an elegant pair that she has previously showcased on several occasions.
Notably, she chose them on the day she left the hospital after giving birth to Prince Louis.
In 2016, during her first official solo overseas visit to the Netherlands, she also opted for these jewels.
Additionally, she wore them while accompanying the Royal Family to receive the Queen’s coffin at Buckingham Palace.
Prince William, now the Prince of Wales, shared that joining the solemn procession and witnessing his late grandmother’s final journey from Buckingham Palace brought back heartbreaking memories of his mother, Princess Diana.
The Prince expressed how difficult the moment had been for him.
Daily Express royal correspondent Richard Palmer reported on Twitter that Prince William confided in a woman at Sandringham, describing the procession as a challenging experience reminiscent of walking behind his mother’s coffin.
He even jokingly told another woman not to cry, as it might start him crying too.
The sight of Princes William and Harry walking side by side behind their grandmother’s coffin on Wednesday evoked memories of their heartbreaking walk during their mother’s funeral in 1997.
At that time, William was just 15 years old, while Harry was only 13.
