Colin Jost, the host of Saturday Night Live, didn’t hold back in his recent jab at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
During the Weekend Update segment, Jost addressed the upcoming spin-off of the TV show Suits and Meghan’s potential return to acting, while taking a brutal swipe at Prince Harry.
Jost humorously highlighted that the spin-off would focus on Meghan Markle’s character, who struggles to balance her legal career with caring for an unemployed immigrant.
As he spoke, the poster featuring the original Suits cast was replaced by one featuring the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
This isn’t the first time Jost has taken shots at the royal couple.
In fact, his wife, Scarlett Johansson, has even kept them out of the Museum of Natural History gala.
The irony lies in the fact that Prince Harry himself becomes the punchline in Jost’s jokes.
According to Jost, Americans don’t see Prince Harry doing much these days.
Despite being named as part of the leadership team on the Uplift Summit website, he is not scheduled to appear at the next event.
It seems that the public no longer takes the couple seriously, as Jost humorously remarked, “They really Markled themselves.”
The road to redemption won’t be easy for Harry and Meghan.
It would require years of consistent hard work and top-notch public relations to regain their credibility.
However, Jost believes they won’t be able to manage it.
Harry, who left the royal family to be taken more seriously, has ironically become an even bigger laughing stock.
In other news, it was confirmed earlier this week that the hit legal drama Suits will return for a spin-off based in Los Angeles.
While it remains unclear whether the original cast, including Patrick J Adams, Gabriel Macdon, Sarah Rafferty, and Meghan Markle, will return, speculations have arisen about Meghan’s potential acting comeback to cope with rumored financial troubles.
The Markles’ PR agency hinted at Meghan’s involvement in the spin-off, suggesting that a character named Erica, specially tailored for the former actress, has been created by screenwriter Aaron Korsh.
However, some critics dismiss this as a mere PR stunt, claiming that the spin-off will take place in the Suits world and feature appearances from some of the original cast members.
Nevertheless, esteemed commentator Richard Fitzwilliams expressed his concerns about Meghan returning to Suits, stating that it would be a step backward for her career.
He believes there is no indication that she can become a Hollywood star.
Fitzwilliams also discussed how Meghan’s potential involvement in Suits could impact Prince Harry and his charitable work.
He pointed out that Harry was associated with charities such as Invictus, Santa Belle, Lesotho, and Wellchild before his marriage.
If Meghan were to return to the show, it would link back to Harry’s previous activities.
Additionally, Fitzwilliams expressed his disappointment with the couple’s archewell foundation, noting that it hasn’t been performing well.
He criticized Meghan for frequently talking about exciting projects that never materialize, referencing her previous announcement of numerous upcoming ventures.
