Hollywood legend d–k Van Dyke, known for his iconic roles in Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and The d–k Van Dyke Show, has expressed his disappointment with Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, the 98-year-old actor shared his thoughts on Meghan’s allegations of racism and mistreatment towards the royal family during her interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year.
Van Dyke, who became an honorary Brit through his portrayal of a cockney chimney sweep in Mary Poppins, revealed his deep admiration and respect for the Queen and the monarchy.
He also sympathized with Prince Harry, whom he believed had been mistreated by his wife.
According to Van Dyke, Meghan Markle lacks understanding of what it means to be a royal, to serve the Queen and the country, and to uphold centuries-old traditions and values.
The veteran actor criticized Meghan for entering the royal family with high demands and expectations without appreciating the privilege and honor bestowed upon her.
He remarked that she wanted to be everything – a royal, a celebrity, a humanitarian, a politician, and a businesswoman – but was unable to handle the responsibilities that came with it.
Van Dyke stated, “She wanted to have her cake and eat it too.”
Van Dyke also expressed shock at Meghan’s claim that a member of the royal family had expressed concerns about the potential darkness of her son Archie’s skin before his birth.
He vehemently denied the accusation of racism, emphasizing that the royal family is one of the most diverse and inclusive families in the world, welcoming people from all races, religions, and backgrounds.
Regarding Meghan’s statement about feeling suicidal and unsupported, Van Dyke dismissed it as unfounded.
He pointed out that she had access to the best medical professionals, therapists, and counselors, as well as the love and support of her husband and millions of people worldwide.
Van Dyke believed that Meghan’s complaints and victim mentality were unjustified.
Expressing sympathy for Prince Harry, Van Dyke claimed that Meghan had manipulated and isolated him from his family and friends.
He accused her of making him turn his back on his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, whom he described as a wonderful and gracious woman.
Van Dyke also mentioned Harry’s renouncement of his titles, duties, and heritage, as well as his relocation to America, where he lacks roots, purpose, and identity.
In conclusion, Van Dyke expressed hope that Prince Harry would come to his senses and reconcile with the Queen and the Royal Family.
He urged Harry to apologize and return to England, resuming his role as a prince and leader.
Van Dyke’s final words conveyed his belief that Meghan Markle was a selfish, greedy, and ungrateful woman who did not deserve Harry.
