Prince William and King Charles have made the decision to cancel a highly anticipated meeting with the England squad at Buckingham Palace.
This comes in the wake of England’s devastating 2-1 loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, a match that was closely observed by the Prince of Wales.
Prince William, accompanied by his eldest son, Prince George, journeyed to Germany to show their support for the Three Lions as they battled it out in Berlin.
Unfortunately, the outcome of the game sealed England’s fate in defeat under the leadership of manager Gareth Southgate.
Plans for a special gathering at Buckingham Palace have also been scaled back amidst the aftermath of the disappointing result.
Previously, there were talks of organizing an open-top bus parade in London on July 16th to celebrate an English victory in the tournament.
The proposed route would have led the England players to Buckingham Palace, where they were set to be honored at a reception hosted by Prince William and King Charles.
However, following the team’s loss in Germany, these celebratory arrangements have reportedly been put on hold.
In response to the defeat, King Charles publicly reached out to express his sentiments to the England manager.
He conveyed his empathy by acknowledging the bitter taste of defeat when victory seemed within reach.
Despite the sorrowful outcome, King Charles extended his condolences while also commending Spain on their triumph.
Additionally, he highlighted the significance of England’s journey to the final, emphasizing that the nation continues to stand behind the Three Lions with unwavering pride, anticipating future successes on the horizon.
As the president of the Football Association, the Prince of Wales also took to social media to share his thoughts following the final match.
