In a surprising turn of events, Duchess Catherine, commonly known as Kate Middleton, left a father astonished after she extended a helping hand to his son during their train journey to the Commonwealth Games.
The heartwarming encounter was shared by journalist Matthew Syed, who unexpectedly witnessed the interaction between his son and the Duchess.
Matthew Syed, a writer for The Times, recounted the incident in his sports column published on Wednesday.
According to Syed, the Duchess was traveling without any security or armed guards, opting to travel first class on the train to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Meanwhile, Princess Charlotte, accompanied by her father Prince William, flew to the Games in style via helicopter.
Syed and his eight-year-old son Ted were on their way to watch the table tennis tournament, a sport in which Syed had previously won gold decades before.
As the father went to use the bathroom on the train, young Ted waited outside the vestibule.
It was during this time that he struck up a conversation with a woman.
The woman, later revealed to be Kate Middleton, asked Ted if he was alone.
Ted promptly replied, pointing towards the bathroom, “No, my dad is in there.”
Syed, unaware of the identity of the woman, overheard their lively conversation and laughter.
Little did he know that his son was engaging in a delightful exchange with the Duchess of Cambridge herself.
Upon exiting the bathroom, Syed intended to thank the woman for keeping his son company.
However, he was taken aback when he realized it was none other than Kate Middleton.
Syed couldn’t help but express his astonishment, writing, “Here is the Duchess of Cambridge, chatting merrily with my son.”
As they bid farewell to the Duchess, Syed asked his son if he knew who she was.
Ted, oblivious to her royal status, responded, “No idea, but she was really nice.”
Syed later took to Twitter to share the extraordinary encounter with his 111,000 followers, expressing his gratitude to Kensington Royal for their kindness.
The Commonwealth Games also witnessed a delightful family affair on Tuesday, as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made an appearance.
Princess Charlotte, dressed in a striped dress with pigtails and a Peter Pan collar, sat between her parents.
