The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, effortlessly braved the cold weather as she graced the red carpet at the 70th Annual EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) in London, February 2017.
Despite concerns that her presence might overshadow the nominees, Kate managed to exude understated glamour alongside her husband, Prince William, as they arrived fashionably late.
For this special occasion, Kate opted for a bespoke Bada-style dress by Alexander McQueen.
The black gown featured delicate white flowers and a long-tiered skirt, which was a modified version of the designer’s Fall 2016 collection.
The Alexander McQueen team customized the bust and straps of the dress specifically for Kate.
Described on the designer’s website as a “Black mix violet jackwood long-tier dress,” it boasted thin straps, boning within the bodice, and an organza layering throughout the skirt.
The dress was crafted from a luxurious silk mix fabric and reportedly valued at US$10,605.
To complete her ensemble, Kate carried a new clutch bag, also designed by Alexander McQueen.
The heart-clasp satin box clutch featured a gold-toned metal frame and a two-tone heart-shaped metal clasp adorned with sparkling crystals and faux pearls.
This elegant accessory retails for US$2,075 or £1,659 sterling at MatchesFashion.com.
Kate accessorized with a striking pair of earrings, which caught the attention of many.
The upper portion of the earrings showcased a pear-shaped central stone surrounded by what appeared to be diamonds.
The lower pendant, equally eye-catching, also featured a pear-shaped central stone, albeit reversed with the point at the top.
Diamonds encircled this stone as well.
Speculation suggests that the stones may be morganite or quartz, although no official confirmation has been provided.
Interestingly, Kate previously wore these earrings at the 100 Women in Hedge Funds Gala in 2011, but due to her hair being down that evening, they were not prominently visible.
Among her other jewelry, Kate donned the wedding gift bracelet, which holds significant historical value.
Originally gifted by Prince Philip to Queen Elizabeth II in 1947, the bracelet was loaned to Kate for the Chinese State Banquet in 2015.
It is made from diamonds taken from a tiara that belonged to Prince Philip’s mother, Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark, and set in platinum.
The Duchess of Cambridge’s appearance at the BAFTAs proved once again her ability to effortlessly captivate the audience with her grace and style.
