The Duchess of Cambridge is set to team up with tennis legend Roger Federer for a special tennis event next month.
The royal will be participating in a day of tennis with schoolchildren in East London.
Known for their close personal relationship, the Duchess and the eight-time Wimbledon champion will meet children between the ages of 8 and 15, providing them with an engaging and memorable tennis experience.
As a passionate tennis player herself, the Duchess of Cambridge has had numerous encounters with Federer, 41, over the years in her capacity as patron of the Lawn Tennis Association.
The former world number one, who unfortunately missed this year’s Wimbledon due to injury, has even played tennis with Prince George, 9, and attended Pippa Middleton’s wedding in 2017.
This exciting Day of Tennis is part of a joint charitable initiative recently announced.
All proceeds from tickets to the Lava Cup Open Practice Day, scheduled for September 22nd at the O2, will be divided between two organizations supported by the Duchess of Cambridge: Action for Children and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), which operates the LTA Tennis Foundation.
The Lava Cup is a three-day team competition co-founded by Federer, where six of Europe’s top players face off against six players from the rest of the world.
Fans will have the opportunity to watch Federer and other tennis superstars in training during the Open Practice Day.
Tickets for this event will go on sale on August 22nd.
The collaboration between the Duchess of Cambridge and Federer was initiated by Her Royal Highness herself.
She is deeply committed to supporting grassroots tennis and encouraging young people from all walks of life to get involved in the sport.
Tennis has become a recurring theme in her royal engagements, such as when she joined Emma Raducanu for a victory match after her US Open win last year.
Similar to her husband, the Duchess is an avid tennis fan and frequently attends Wimbledon as the patron of the All England Club.
In fact, the royal family even has their own tennis court at their country home, Anmer Hall in Norfolk.
Federer himself praised Prince George’s tennis skills after playing with the young prince in 2019.
The charitable initiative will benefit Action for Children, an organization that supports vulnerable children, young people, and their families throughout the UK.
The funds received will provide practical and emotional care, as well as opportunities for fun activities and outings.
