The Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles, has recently revealed that there is one thing she will never do, which means she may never have the chance to wear some of the royal family’s most exquisite jewellery pieces.
Despite being an important senior member of the extended royal family since marrying Prince Charles in 2005, Camilla’s significance to the monarchy’s future was emphasized earlier this year.
In a heartfelt message released on her ascension day, Queen Elizabeth expressed her sincere wish for her daughter-in-law to become Queen Consort when Prince Charles ascends to the throne.
This announcement highlighted the strong bond between the Queen and Duchess Camilla, who later described the news as a great honor.
However, it appears that going forward, Duchess Camilla may continue to miss out on the opportunity to wear some of Her Majesty’s most magnificent royal jewellery pieces on loan.
Over the years, Camilla has been known to adore one of Queen Elizabeth’s tiaras, the Greville Tiara.
She has also been loaned some of the Queen’s stunning brooches for special occasions, such as the Queen Mother’s rock crystal brooch for the state opening of Parliament last year.
Unfortunately, when it comes to the fabulous royal earrings, it seems that Duchess Camilla may miss out due to a simple reason – her ears are not pierced.
In an interview with British Vogue ahead of her 75th birthday on July 17, Camilla revealed that despite her grandchildren’s attempts to convince her otherwise, she is determined to keep it that way.
When asked about the possibility of getting her ears pierced, Duchess Camilla firmly responded, “And they are not going to be.
No, I’m not going to give it to myself for a 75th birthday present.
The grandchildren will try to persuade me, but nothing’s going to pierce my ears.”
It is well-known that the Duchess has never had her ears pierced, although she has been seen wearing earrings for royal engagements.
It is unclear whether these earrings were fastened differently or modified to accommodate her unpierced ears.
With her resolute decision, it seems that Duchess Camilla will continue to miss out on the opportunity to wear some of Her Majesty’s breathtaking earrings.
In contrast, her stepdaughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, has been seen sporting several pairs of the Queen’s earrings at significant moments.
At Prince Philip’s funeral last year, the Duchess of Cambridge paid a subtle tribute to the Queen by wearing the Bahrain diamond and pearl drop earrings, which were a gift from the Queen to Prince Philip.
More recently, Kate Middleton dazzled in yellow at a service of Thanksgiving during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
She once again wore the same diamond and pearl earrings, and for the Platinum Pageant, she reportedly chose floral earrings from the Queen’s collection.
While Duchess Camilla may sadly never have the chance to wear these beautiful pieces, the Queen’s jewellery is still being enjoyed by her closest family members.
