The Duke and Duchess of Sussex received an unexpected cold reception during their visit to Jamaica.
Rita Marley, the widow of reggae legend Bob Marley, reportedly showed her displeasure at their uninvited presence at the premiere of the biopic “Bob Marley: One Love” in Kingston on Tuesday night.
Eyewitnesses claim that Rita Marley, accompanied by her son Ziggy and other members of the Marley family, expressed her annoyance upon seeing Harry and Meghan on the red carpet, engaging in conversation with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Paramount Pictures CEO Brian Robbins.
According to sources, Rita Marley made it clear that she did not want the royal couple near her or the film’s cast and crew.
She allegedly instructed the organizers to find Harry and Meghan another seat, feeling that they were trying to overshadow her husband’s legacy and the film’s message of love and unity.
“Rita was furious that Harry and Meghan showed up without an invitation.
She felt that they were trying to steal the spotlight from her husband’s legacy and the film’s message of love and unity,” a source revealed.
Harry and Meghan, who are known fans of Bob Marley’s music and message, were invited to the premiere by the Robbins family, with whom they share a personal friendship.
However, they failed to inform Rita Marley or the film’s producers of their attendance and arrived at the last minute, causing quite a stir among the media and guests.
Their lack of coordination and failure to seek permission was seen as disrespectful towards Rita Marley and the Marley family.
“They thought they were doing a favor by showing up and supporting the film, but they did not realize how disrespectful it was to Rita and the Marley family.
They did not even bother to ask for permission or coordinate with the organizers, they just showed up and expected to be treated like royalty,” the source added.
During the screening of the film, Harry and Meghan appeared uncomfortable and unhappy in their seats at the back of the theater.
They did not stay for the entire screening and left shortly after the intermission.
The royal couple did not interact with Rita Marley or any of the film’s stars, including Kingsley Bennetter, who portrays Bob Marley, and Lashawna Lynch, who plays Rita Marley.
The incident has sparked a backlash against Harry and Meghan on social media, with many users accusing them of being rude, arrogant, and attention-seeking.
Some have pointed out the irony of their behavior, considering their repeated claims to value privacy and respect for others.
“Harry and Meghan are so clueless and entitled, they think they can crash any event and get away with it.
They have no respect for Rita Marley or Bob Marley’s legacy.
They should be ashamed of themselves,” one user wrote on Twitter.
Another user commented, “Rita Marley is a legend and a queen.
She has every right to snub Harry and Meghan, who are nothing but fame-hungry opportunists.
They have no place in Jamaica or in the reggae community.
They should go back to their mansion in California and leave us alone.”
As of now, Harry and Meghan have not addressed the incident or offered an apology to Rita Marley or the film’s team.
