The 81st Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night saw first-time host Joe Coy seizing the opportunity to entertain the audience with his witty humor.
While maintaining a celebratory atmosphere, he didn’t shy away from lightly roasting the celebrities in attendance.
One of his targets was the popular TV series, The Crown, which happened to be among the nominated shows for the night.
Coy took a playful jab at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who recently ventured into TV production for Netflix.
He humorously remarked that their efforts fell short despite the substantial investment they received.
In fact, Coy went as far as jokingly claiming that Prince Harry had even reached out to Imelda Staunton, who portrays the late Queen, to ask for money.
Interestingly, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will still receive millions of dollars from Netflix without having to do much.
This lighthearted comment raises the question of whether the couple tuned in to watch the Golden Globes.
It’s amusing to think that Meghan might have heard this joke while watching the show.
Reflecting on their journey, it’s quite a remarkable transformation for Prince Harry, who was once a British Prince with a favorable public image and immense wealth.
However, within just three years, he has gone from being on top of the world to becoming an easy target for jokes.
Undoubtedly, Harry and Meghan must feel a sense of pride in their accomplishments.
As the red carpet event unfolded, one can’t help but wonder if Coy’s remarks were a response to Meghan’s recent comments during a variety red carpet interview.
She claimed to have numerous projects in the works, despite the general perception that she currently has no significant engagements.
This might have irked some in Hollywood, where hard work is often necessary to achieve success.
Even then, there’s no guarantee of remaining relevant once a show or income stream ends.
In contrast, Meghan and Harry seemingly effortlessly secured a $100 million deal with Netflix and a $30 million deal with Spotify.
Their ability to criticize their own family while enjoying such lucrative opportunities is something many in Hollywood would envy.
Coy’s roast comes in the wake of Meghan Markle’s absence from the Vanity Fair party, a highly anticipated pre-Golden Globe event.
The party, held at the renowned Chateau Marmont hotel on the Sunset Strip, attracted a plethora of A-list celebrities, most of whom were nominees for various awards.
Notable attendees included Nicolas Cage, Reese Witherspoon, James Marsden, Rosamund Pike, and Natasha Leone, among others.
However, Meghan Markle was noticeably absent from the gathering.
This absence could be seen as a consequence of her recent behavior, which has drawn criticism from both the public and industry insiders.
After causing a stir on the red carpet at the Variety Power of Women event and grabbing an embarrassing microphone at Kevin Costner’s charity function, Meghan and Harry seem to have lost their credibility within Hollywood circles.
It appears that their obnoxious bodyguards, who surround them at events, give off an air of superiority that alienates them from their peers.
Meghan’s actions suggest a narcissistic desire to steal the limelight from those who have worked hard to earn recognition.
Consequently, the press coverage the following day focused on her inappropriate behavior rather than celebrating her achievements.
