Prince Harry is facing a growing backlash in his adopted home of the United States following a segment on Fox News that ridiculed his recent memoir announcement.
The segment, called Friday Follies, features popular host Laura Ingram and guest pundit Raymond Orio, who highlight the most absurd stories of the week.
This time, Harry found himself in the spotlight as Raymond Orio claimed that the Duke of Sussex’s memoir was set to cause a stir.
Describing the memoir as an allegedly unsparing account of Harry’s truth, Orio drew attention to the title, “Spare,” comparing it to having a spare key or a spare tire.
He sarcastically referred to Harry as the “spare royal discontent.”
Orio also commented on the cover of the book, which he likened to a video game avatar and compared to Meghan Markle’s recent Variety cover, noting their similar sun-kissed appearance.
He further revealed that both covers were created by J.R. Moehringer, the same ghostwriter.
Miss Ingram joined in, suggesting that the memoir should have been titled “Whipped,” alluding to Harry always being overshadowed by his wife.
She quickly added that there was nothing wrong with that anymore, implying a shift in societal norms.
However, critics argue that the book’s actual title, “Spare,” is a pathetic dig at the royal family, emphasizing Harry’s position as the spare to his brother William, the heir.
They believe it shows Harry’s resentment towards his lower status and inability to move on.
Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, expressed her disappointment, stating that being the spare still consumes Harry after all these years.
She described it as “pathetic” and questioned why he hasn’t managed to let go of this mindset.
In the past, Princess Diana used to refer to Harry as the spare, and he would often use it as an excuse for his behavior, claiming he could do whatever he wanted.
Sources have indicated that Harry may travel to Britain in the new year to explain his intentions behind writing the book, which is expected to cast a shadow over the royal family’s Christmas, their first since the Queen’s passing.
It is anticipated that this revelation will not lead to a relaxing family holiday season.
Royal author Angela Levin criticized Prince Harry for focusing on past grievances with the royal family instead of embracing his new life with his own family.
She accused the Sussexes of wanting to destroy the monarchy.
Levin, during an interview with Sky News Australia, condemned the choice of the title “Spare” for his memoir, considering it a tragedy.
She questioned whether Harry still felt like a spare, despite having left the royal family, finding love, having children, and enjoying freedom.
Levin found it disheartening that the title, in some countries, translates to “Leftover,” as if Harry were some discarded item.
She believed the title to be hideous and nonsensical.
Furthermore, Levin criticized Harry for attacking his parents at a time when King Charles is grieving for his mother, calling it unkind.
She reminisced about Harry’s mischievous nature and high energy, expressing her disappointment in his current actions.
As the controversy surrounding Prince Harry’s memoir continues to unfold, it is clear that his decision to share his story has ignited a heated debate, raising questions about his motives and the impact it will have on his relationship with the royal family.
