Harry and Meghan’s Netflix contract may not be as doomed as previously thought.
Despite rumors of trouble within Archwell Productions, it appears that the couple is still actively working on various projects.
However, one can’t help but wonder if they are simply trying to capitalize on their royal connections.
There have been several signs that all is not well within Archwell Productions.
The most glaring indication is the constant turnover of staff.
It’s no secret that a mass exodus of employees does not bode well for the health of a company.
Additionally, the quality of their work leaves much to be desired.
While their docuseries titled “Harry and Meghan” did reasonably well, it was far from the resounding success they claimed it to be.
The Live to Lead series, on the other hand, was not even produced by them but rather acquired after its completion.
Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern expressed regret over her involvement, stating that she would not have attached her name to it had she known it was an Archwell Productions feature.
And let’s not forget the disastrous Heart of Invictus, which failed to impress due to Harry and Meghan’s association with it.
People had already soured on anything the couple was involved in by that point, so the project didn’t stand a chance.
In a recent article by Newsweek, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming projects with Netflix were revealed.
This begs the question: could these be the same projects Meghan mentioned at a Variety event back in November?
And what exactly are these projects?
Given their track record, one would think that Netflix should be wary of entrusting them with any significant work.
However, according to Netflix’s chief content officer, Bella Beharia, the couple has several projects in development.
It’s worth noting that this information comes from a source other than Meghan herself, which adds a bit of credibility.
Nonetheless, Hollywood is known for its smoke and mirrors, so it’s wise to approach this news with caution.
According to Newsweek, Beharia mentioned that the new projects include unscripted content, as well as a film and a series, all in very early development stages.
The phrase “very early development” raises some eyebrows, especially in light of the cancellation of their previously hyped series, Pearl.
Typically, such early stages imply that the projects are still mere ideas and have yet to be actualized.
It’s reminiscent of their failed attempt at a Netflix show called Bad Manners, which aimed to reimagine the story of Miss Havisham from Great Expectations as a misunderstood feminist.
Frankly, it was an idea that lacked promise, and one can only hope that it isn’t among their current projects.
Netflix certainly wouldn’t want another flop on their hands.
Richard Eden of the Daily Mail echoes these concerns, questioning whether Harry and Meghan will continue to capitalize on their royal connections or strive to establish themselves as independent filmmakers.
Their endeavors to make films about others have yielded little success thus far.
It’s clear that their only triumphs have been at the expense of Harry’s family.
On their own, they lack talent, innovative ideas, and a compelling offering.
Whether this will change remains uncertain, but the outlook appears bleak.
Eden also highlights the growing dilemma faced by Harry and Meghan as their Netflix contract nears its end.
Should they continue trying to prove themselves as filmmakers or exploit their royal connections for personal gain?
A recent encounter with the boss of Paramount Pictures during their Caribbean trip has sparked speculation that they may be considering alternative options.
However, it would be foolish for them to believe they can surpass Netflix’s reach at this point.
They should be grateful for any work offered to them, rather than attempting to sever ties prematurely.
If they were to join another broadcasting company, they would likely encounter the same predicament of cashing in on their royal links versus establishing credibility as producers of content about others.
The lack of transparency from Harry and Meghan regarding their future projects is disconcerting.
Despite Meghan’s claims of exciting ventures in the pipeline, we are still left waiting for any substantial information.
Bennett Levine’s departure as Archwell Productions’ manager, following the resignation of Oscar-winning producer Ben Browning, further fuels suspicions of trouble within the company.
These signs suggest that Netflix will not renew their contract, leaving the couple with limited options.
Their prospects in the film and television industry seem uncertain, and it’s difficult to envision success for them based on their current trajectory.
What are your thoughts on Harry and Meghan’s future in the entertainment industry?
Will they remain with Netflix, or will they explore other avenues?
