Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have always been known for doing things their own way, and their approach to their son Archie’s christening was no exception.
Unlike Prince William and Kate, who followed royal tradition when it came to the christenings of their children, Harry and Meghan opted for a more private affair.
Traditionally, christenings are not broadcasted, but the press are usually invited to capture photos of the family and their guests as they arrive and leave the celebrations.
However, Meghan and Harry chose to invite only 25 people to a private part of Windsor Castle for the event, breaking away from this tradition.
Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, believes that it was Harry’s decision to keep the christening private, but expressed concern about the potential backlash Meghan might face from the public and other members of the royal family.
Seward stated, “I think this is quite Harry-led.
It’s putting Meghan in a very difficult position.
She’s the one getting on the flag as a newcomer to the royal family.
I assume Harry and Meghan don’t know where they’re going wrong.
I think the criticism is all so very unfair.”
While photographs were not allowed inside the event, the couple did release a few professional snaps, including a beautiful family photo featuring proud parents, King Charles, Camilla, the Waleses, Meghan’s mom, Doria, and Princess Diana’s sisters.
The Queen and Prince Philip were unable to attend due to a prior engagement, but they also missed Prince Lelie’s christening earlier in the year.
According to a source from Windsor, a small group of guests enjoyed a low-key lunch following the brief service.
The source revealed, “It was very, very low-key.
He [Archie] wouldn’t have even known if it was going on.
It was all very well thought through.”
The source also mentioned that Archie was well-behaved and brought joy to the celebration.
The service was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who had previously confirmed Meghan into the church ahead of her marriage to Harry.
The source shared that Meghan had developed a close bond with the Archbishop, as she had gone through her confirmation as an adult and was relatively new to the UK at that time.
The christening of Archie raises questions about his future title and privileges as a royal.
Will he and his sister Lelie receive the same recognition as other members of the royal family?
Will Meghan’s perceived plot against the royals have any repercussions for their children?
