The 91st Hollywood Christmas Parade, a long-standing tradition in the entertainment industry, has taken a surprising turn as organizers have decided to ban Megan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, from attending.
The reason behind this decision stems from Markle’s alleged attempt to use the parade as a platform for self-promotion.
According to reports, Markle had asked her talent agency, WME, to display billboards featuring her along the parade route.
This move did not sit well with the parade organizers, who felt that Markle was trying to hijack the event for her own gain.
In response, they swiftly revoked her invitation to the star-studded celebration.
The Hollywood Christmas Parade, dating back to 1928, is renowned for its celebrity appearances, floats, balloons, bands, and of course, Santa Claus himself.
The event also supports the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, which aims to collect and distribute toys to underprivileged children during the holiday season.
This year’s Grand Marshal is retired U.S. Army Colonel Paris D. Davis, a Medal of Honor recipient known for his heroism during the Vietnam War.
Initially, Markle was expected to attend the parade as a guest of honor and a supporter of the charity.
However, her alleged demand for billboards featuring her image along the 3.2-mile parade route raised eyebrows.
These billboards were intended to showcase her acting roles and recent appearances at various events, with the goal of boosting her profile and popularity in Hollywood.
Unfortunately for Markle, her plan backfired when the parade organizers discovered her scheme.
They were outraged by what they perceived as a lack of respect and humility on her part.
To them, it seemed as though Markle was attempting to overshadow the other participants and divert attention away from the true purpose of the parade – celebrating the spirit of Christmas and helping children in need.
Additionally, they believed that Markle’s actions disrespected the Grand Marshal, Colonel Davis, who is widely regarded as a true hero and role model.
As a result, the parade organizers made the decision to ban Markle from the event and remove her billboards from the streets.
Markle’s spokesperson has yet to comment on the matter, but sources close to her claim that she is devastated and humiliated by the snub.
They argue that Markle’s intention was simply to raise awareness for her charitable projects and show her appreciation for Hollywood, where her career began.
They also assert that Markle was unaware of the parade’s rules and traditions, and did not mean to offend anyone.
However, critics and commentators have been quick to condemn Markle’s actions, accusing her of arrogance and narcissism.
They perceive her as a publicity-hungry opportunist desperate for attention and fame.
Some have even compared her unfavorably to other members of the royal family, such as Kate Middleton and Queen Elizabeth, who are seen as more dignified and gracious in their public appearances.
The Hollywood Christmas Parade, set to air on December 10 on The CW, will feature performances by renowned artists such as The Village People, Paula Abdul, and Dwight Yoakam.
