The Duke of Sussex has landed in the United Kingdom for a significant visit marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
However, his itinerary does not include a meeting with the king due to the monarch’s busy schedule.
A spokesperson for the Duke expressed his understanding of the situation and conveyed his hope to reunite with his father soon.
Notably, the Prince of Wales will also be absent from Wednesday’s Invictus event.
In light of the king’s cancer diagnosis earlier this year, the Duke’s previous official trip to the UK took place in March.
Despite the lack of acknowledgment from Buckingham Palace, the Duke’s presence in the country is primarily for participation in the Invictus Games.
This event honors the resilience and courage of military personnel and veterans who have endured injuries while serving their nation.
During the Thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, the Duke is slated to deliver a reading, while actor Damian Lewis will recite a poem.
Notably, neither the King nor the Prince of Wales will be in attendance at the service.
The absence of the Princess of Wales is attributed to her ongoing cancer treatment.
As of now, no other notable members of the royal family have been confirmed as attendees.
Following their time in London, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are scheduled to journey to Nigeria.
This trip stems from an invitation extended by the Chief of Defence Staff of Nigeria after meeting the Duke during last year’s Invictus Games in Germany.
Despite the King’s recent return to public engagements post his cancer diagnosis, his participation in traditional royal summer activities remains uncertain.
While the King continues his cancer treatment, he has gradually resumed public duties with the approval of his medical team.
His cautious reentry into public life comes after a period of avoiding large gatherings and events.
The Duke of Sussex remains supportive of his father’s commitments and eagerly anticipates a future reunion.
