Australian actor and Euphoria star, Jacob Elordi, took center stage as the host of the latest episode of Saturday Night Live in 2023.
In a sketch titled “The Royal Family Christmas Special,” Elordi portrayed Prince Harry, while Eggo Wodom played Meghan Markle.
The sketch depicted the couple celebrating the holidays with their children, Archie and Lilibet, at their California mansion.
However, things took an awkward turn when they received a video call from the rest of the royal family, who were gathered at Buckingham Palace.
The sketch humorously highlighted the scandals and controversies that have surrounded Meghan and Harry since they stepped down from their senior royal roles and relocated to the United States.
The couple has since signed lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify, and given explosive interviews to media outlets, including Oprah Winfrey.
Elordi’s portrayal of Harry showcased his attempts to be supportive of his wife while also expressing doubts and regrets about their decisions.
His character had watched the Netflix documentary, “Harry and Meghan,” which portrayed them as victims of racism, sexism, and bullying from both the British media and the royal family.
On the other hand, Wodom’s portrayal of Meghan depicted her as a manipulative and narcissistic liar.
She was shown exaggerating or fabricating claims of mistreatment and abuse while constantly seeking attention and sympathy from the public.
Furthermore, she displayed no respect or affection for Harry’s family, often making rude and sarcastic remarks towards them.
The sketch featured several jokes at Meghan’s expense.
Elordi’s Harry expressed missing his family and his former life, feeling as though he had lost his identity since moving to the US.
In response, Wodom’s Meghan playfully reassured him, saying, “Don’t worry, honey.
You still have your identity.
You’re still the guy who married me.”
Another joke involved Meghan claiming to have written a letter to her estranged father, Thomas Markle, in an attempt to reconcile.
However, she revealed that he had sold the letter to the Mail on Sunday.
When Harry asked to see the letter, Meghan presented him with a piece of paper that read, “Dear Daddy, I hate you.
You’re a jerk.
Give me money.
Love, Meghan.”
The sketch also featured interactions with other members of the royal family.
Meghan complimented Queen Elizabeth, played by Kate McKinnon, for being a strong and independent woman.
In response, the Queen thanked Meghan and expressed admiration for her as a woman.
Meghan also interrupted Prince William, portrayed by Alex Moffat, and his wife, Kate Middleton, played by Cecily Strong, during their duet of Wham!
‘s “Last Christmas.”
She jokingly remarked, “Wow, that was beautiful.
You know, I also have a song.
It’s called ‘I’m sorry.’
It goes like this: ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry for being so awesome.
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry for being so smart.
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry for being so brave.
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry for being so me.'”
The sketch concluded with Elordi’s Harry expressing his love for Meghan and his pride in everything they had accomplished together.
Meghan reciprocated the sentiment, saying, “I love you too, Harry.
And I’m proud of everything I’ve done.
And you were there too.”
