The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, stunned audiences with a surprise piano performance at Westminster Abbey.
The heartfelt tribute was dedicated to a man who lost his grandfather during the pandemic.
Tom Walker, the songwriter behind the piece performed by Kate, shared his experience working with her behind the scenes.
Kate hosted the event, Royal Carols, Together at Christmas, as a way to express gratitude to those who have supported their communities during these challenging times.
A teaser clip for the musical show hinted at a hidden talent that the Duchess would reveal on ITV’s Christmas Eve broadcast.
Little did the viewers know, it was her piano skills that would captivate them.
According to Mr. Walker, Mirror Online reported that Kate was quite nervous during her first rehearsal.
It had been a long time since she had played alongside another musician.
During the top-secret practice session, the pair sat on opposite sides of the room.
Kate played the song around nine times and flawlessly nailed it, impressing everyone present.
Reflecting on his experience, Mr. Walker mentioned how nice Kate was throughout the process.
He recalled her initial nervousness due to not having played with another musician in a while.
Although she has a piano at home, the one rented for the day was different, so she had to adjust to its feel.
Despite the pressure, Kate remained calm, approachable, and incredibly lovely.
It all began when Kate reached out to Mr. Walker after they both attended a charity event where he performed his original song, “Leave a Light on Live.”
She expressed her interest in having him perform at the carol service.
However, Mr. Walker suggested his newly written Christmas song, which had not been heard by anyone yet.
To his delight, Kate loved the song and asked if he could perform it.
But the surprises didn’t end there.
A week later, Kate’s team contacted Mr. Walker again, revealing her desire to play the piano part herself.
This revelation surprised him, as he had no idea she played the instrument.
Nonetheless, he was thrilled by the idea and eagerly agreed to arrange a secret rehearsal.
Even the studio was kept in the dark about what was going on.
The performance at Westminster Abbey was a testament to Kate’s hidden talent and her dedication to making the event truly special.
Her piano skills added an extra layer of emotion and touched the hearts of all who witnessed it.
