In a recent development, it has been claimed by royal biographer Tom Bower that King Charles might strip Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of their titles following the publication of the Duke of Sussex’s tell-all memoir.
Bower further warned that the new monarch could also withhold the titles of Archie and Lilibet over the book called “Spare,” which he believes is a make-or-break moment for the Sussexes.
Originally scheduled to be released this autumn, the publication date of the 416-page book was pushed back to January 10 due to the Queen’s demise.
Harry has promised that his memoir will be a truthful and accurate account of his life.
However, the announcement of the novel has reportedly sent shockwaves through royal circles, with fears of potential repercussions.
According to Bower, the book holds significant importance as he stated, “‘This book is really make-or-break.
I imagine that King Charles has been warned that any retaliation won’t be pretty.'”
He further explained, “‘All that King Charles can really do is to withhold the titles for his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet.
Ultimately, I suppose, he could take away Harry and Meghan’s titles as well, but that’s pretty drastic.
I don’t know what else he can do.
If it is as bad as I think it is, then Harry and Meghan have gone fully rogue.
The best the family can do is to break ties with them.'”
Myle Gardiner, a royal family enthusiast, echoed similar concerns, stating that if the book attacks the firm, Buckingham Palace will be extremely worried.
He added, “‘Harry and Meghan will be cast into the wilderness and lose their royal titles if this is an all-out onslaught against the royal family.'”
Gardiner also expressed his belief that the publication of “Spare” could cause significant damage to the royal family and have a catastrophic impact on Meghan and Harry’s standing.
It is worth noting that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their roles as senior working members of the royal family in 2020 and relocated to the United States.
While they retained their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles, they lost the right to use their HRH status in an official capacity.
Their children, Archie and Lilibet, are eligible to use the HRH style and titles of Prince and Princess as grandchildren of the Sovereign, but they have not been granted this honor.
Royal author Katie Nicholl suggested that King Charles may wait until after the publication of Harry’s book to make a decision regarding his grandchildren’s titles.
She speculated, “…it will be very interesting to see what the King does and whether he uses that as a sort of final conciliatory move to bring Harry and Meghan back in.
But I think so much of it comes down to a matter of trust, and there is a sense that the bond of trust has been broken by the couple.”
The news of King Charles potentially stripping Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of their titles has sparked a discussion among royal enthusiasts.
Many are questioning whether launching “Spare” is Harry’s biggest mistake and if it is finally time for King Charles to take a harsh step against the Sussexes.
