The Crown steps in as King Charles and the Commonwealth make a significant decision regarding Prince Harry.
According to the Royal Insights blog, Harry is being removed from his role as regent, and a ban has been imposed on him, preventing him from accessing the royal burial ground.
A regent is an individual appointed by the government to act on behalf of the reigning monarch in situations where the monarch is unable to fulfill their duties due to incapacity or being below the age of 18.
The responsibilities of a regent include carrying out all of the monarch’s duties, including those related to the opening and closing of Parliament.
It is important to note that a regent does not possess the power to alter the line of succession.
The temporary power they hold cannot be passed on to their own heirs; instead, it reverts back to the primary royal bloodline.
At present, Prince Harry is second in line for the throne.
In the event that King Charles III becomes permanently incapacitated for medical reasons, Prince William would typically be named regent.
If the king were to pass away, the throne would then pass to Prince William.
However, if both King Charles and Prince William were to pass away, Prince George, William’s son, would inherit the throne until July 22nd, 2031, as he is currently under the age of 18.
In such a scenario, a regent would need to be chosen according to the law, and Prince Harry would be a potential candidate.
It is crucial to consider that Prince Harry must fulfill certain conditions to be eligible as a regent.
If he is not a UK resident, he does not meet the requirements.
The phrase “one plane crash away from the throne” used by Harry and Meghan suggests their intention to maintain a prospective claim.
Under English law, domicile holds a distinct meaning from residency, and one can retain their UK domicile while residing abroad.
Factors such as birthplace and intended burial location contribute to determining domicile.
For Prince Harry to be recognized as a legitimate regent or future king, he would need to establish a UK address, as the UK and Commonwealth would not acknowledge him without fulfilling these domicile requirements.
This matter has raised concerns about the monarchy’s future, emphasizing the need for a prompt resolution to avoid any potential complications.
Notably, following their expulsion, Prince Harry and Meghan’s belongings at Frogmore Cottage, a residence bestowed upon them by the late Queen Elizabeth II, will be packed and relocated to their home in California.
Frogmore Cottage, situated on the Windsor estate, underwent extensive renovations in 2019, amounting to an estimated £2.4 million.
Perhaps the king’s ban on Harry is the reason behind the prince’s veiled criticism of the royal family during the closing ceremony of the 6th annual Invictus Games in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Harry addressed the crowd, stating, “A week ago, I stood here and told you about the significance of being able to wear your nation’s flag again.”
He continued, “So many of you have told me that it hit you right here.
For many of you, the uniform you’ve been wearing this past week will give you a new story to tell.
And for others, it may give your old uniform new meaning.”
The estranged royal emphasized that individuals should not rely on uniforms or feel lost without them, as everything they need is already within themselves.
Several UK media outlets have interpreted Harry’s words as a subtle jab at the British monarchy, which prohibited him from wearing his military uniform during the Queen’s funeral in September 2022.
Buckingham Palace explained that Harry was not permitted to wear his Blues and Royals No.
1 dress uniform due to his no longer being a senior member of the family and having his titles revoked in 2020 when he and his wife relocated to California.
