Lady Louise, the 17-year-old daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex, recently revealed that she had no idea her grandmother, the Queen, was a famous figure until her school friends pointed it out.
Despite growing up in a royal household, Lady Louise had a down-to-earth relationship with Her Majesty, and their bond remains strong to this day.
As the youngest grandchildren of the Queen, Lady Louise and her brother James Viscount VII hold a special place in her heart.
The family resides at Bagshot Park, just a short drive away from Windsor Castle, allowing them to spend quality time together on a regular basis.
In an interview recorded before the monarch’s 90th birthday, the Countess of Wessex shared that her children affectionately referred to the Queen as “Grandmama.”
Lady Louise’s lack of awareness about her grandmother’s fame became apparent when she started school.
Other children would mention that her gran was the Queen, leaving her puzzled.
She would come home and ask her mother, “Mummy, they say that grandmama is the Queen.
I don’t understand what they mean.”
Prince Edward, too, had a similar experience.
He admitted that he didn’t realize his mother was the monarch until he was around five or six years old.
Growing up in a royal family, surrounded by such an environment, it was simply what his parents did.
However, he found it fascinating to observe his own children trying to comprehend the complexities of their royal heritage.
Reflecting on his own journey of realization, he remarked, “It was probably not until five or six, I think.”
