Lady Louise Windsor, the eldest child of Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex, along with her 14-year-old brother James, joined the solemn vigil to pay their respects to their late grandmother.
Dressed in black formal attire, the two teenagers stood with bowed heads during the service held at West Minster Hall, where the late monarch will lie in state until Monday morning.
Their mother, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, could be seen in tears as she watched her young children honor their late grandmother from a platform facing the coffin, accompanied by her husband Prince Edward.
At precisely 5:58 pm, the young royals, led by William, took their positions at the top of the Grand Committee staircase in the vast hall.
The vigil commenced at 6:00 pm, marked by the tapping sound that signifies the changing of the guards.
William led the way, descending the steps followed by Harry, Beatrice, Eugenie, Louise, James, Sarah, and Peter, who walked side by side.
The only sound that broke the silence was the echoing footsteps of the grandchildren on the stone floor.
Both Lady Louise and James appeared visibly emotional as they respectfully bowed their heads.
The two brothers, dressed in military uniforms, stood at the foot and head of the Queen’s casket throughout the 15-minute service.
Meanwhile, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips stood on either side of the Prince of Wales, and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were positioned beside Prince Harry.
Lady Louise and James Viscount Severn stood opposite each other in the middle of the coffin.
As members of the public filed past, paying their respects to the Queen, Lady Louise and James remained steadfast in their duty, with some women wiping away tears as they left the hall.
At 6:15 pm, the tapping sound signaled the end of the vigil.
William led the group away from the coffin, followed by Zara and Peter, Louise and James, Beatrice and Eugenie, and finally, Harry.
Earlier in the day, Lady Louise and James’ parents, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, greeted well-wishers outside Buckingham Palace.
Edward expressed his gratitude, saying, “I know that my mother would really appreciate this fantastic support.”
Sympathetic voices expressing condolences could be heard from the crowd gathered outside the Queen’s residence.
This vigil followed a separate one held on Friday night by the Queen’s children, King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and Prince Andrew.
The four royals stood at each corner of the Queen’s coffin, which currently lies in state at Westminster Hall.
