In less than two months, on Saturday, May 6, 2023, King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort, will be crowned in a formal ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
The Archbishop of Canterbury will preside over this historic event, which will be commemorated with various activities over a three-day bank holiday weekend.
The Palace has stated that the coronation will reflect the monarch’s current role while honoring long-standing traditions and pageantry.
The coronation service, known as the Westminster Abbey Coronation Service, will take place on Saturday, May 6.
The day will begin with the King’s procession from Buckingham Palace to the Abbey, where the ceremony will be held.
Unlike Queen Elizabeth II’s service, which lasted for more than three hours, the coronation service is expected to last approximately one hour.
Following the service, the King and Queen Consort will proceed in a grand ceremonial procession back to Buckingham Palace.
The line-up of royal family members who will accompany Charles and Camilla on the Buckingham Palace balcony at the end of the day has not yet been disclosed, but it is expected to include top working royals and immediate successors to the throne.
Notably, Prince Andrew, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and other royals are not expected to be allowed on the balcony.
During the weekend of the coronation, several events will take place to commemorate the occasion.
A spectacular coronation concert will be held at Windsor Castle on May 7, featuring world music luminaries and contemporary artists.
Members of the general public, as well as volunteers from Charles and Camilla’s charitable organizations, will attend the concert.
Tickets for the concert were made available through a ticket ballot, with distribution based on the geographic distribution of the UK’s population.
The concert will showcase performances by a top-notch orchestra, renowned singers, and actors from theatre and television.
The stage will be set on the east lawn of the castle, with stunning staging and effects.
Additionally, communities and neighbors from all over the UK are invited to participate in Coronation Big Lunches, where they can enjoy food and fun together.
The Eden Project’s Big Lunch team will coordinate these events, which are expected to take place across the nation.
On Monday, May 8, the Great Help Out will be observed as part of the coronation weekend.
This day will highlight the positive impact of volunteering on communities throughout the country, fostering community unity and leaving a lasting legacy of volunteering.
As for the attendees at the coronation service, King Charles will be joined by his wife, Queen Camilla, while other members of the royal family look on.
Prince William, Kate, the Princess of Wales, and their three children, as the next in line to the throne, will be present.
Prince Andrew, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and their spouses will also attend, although it is unlikely that Prince Andrew will be permitted to wear his military uniform.
The attendance of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle remains uncertain, as they have not yet confirmed whether they plan to attend.
A representative for the couple stated that they received an invitation from His Majesty’s Office but have not made a public decision regarding their attendance.
It is worth noting that the service date coincides with their son Archie Harrison’s birthday, which may influence their decision.
