The Royal Family is undergoing significant transformations as Prince Charles ascends to the throne, with implications for Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie and their titles.
According to royal expert Marlene Koenig, there may be a change that downgrades Beatrice and Eugenie to the status of daughters of a Duke.
While Charles aims to streamline the monarchy, the primary factor behind this decision is the gender-equal succession, often overlooked by many.
So, what alternative titles might the former princesses receive?
They could potentially be addressed as Lord and Lady, maintaining their prestigious designations.
This shift in titles echoes the 1917 letters patent, which limited the HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) styling and Prince/Princess titles to the great-grandchildren in the male line.
Consequently, the present Duke of Gloucester and the present Duke of Kent, who are grandsons in the male line, were the last to possess the HRH and Prince titles, as their children are not considered royal.
Their Earls titles are styled as the Earl of Ulster and Earl of St. Andrews.
Thus, Charles aims to further restrict the titles, focusing primarily on the gender-equal succession.
The letters patent issued by King George V initially restricted the HRH styling and Prince/Princess titles to the children of the Sovereign, the grandchildren of the Sovereign in the male line, and the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales.
However, Queen Elizabeth modified this convention in 2012, extending the honors to all the children of Prince William and Kate, but excluding titles for Prince Harry’s children.
Archie Harrison and Lilibet, Lily, Diana became eligible for HRH titles when King Charles ascended to the throne on September 8.
Nevertheless, no formal announcement regarding this matter has been made yet.
Speculation regarding the reduction of title holders and working royals arose after Queen Margaret, the Danish head of state, recently announced the removal of titles from four of her grandchildren.
The affected individuals are the three sons and one daughter of Prince Joachim, the Queen’s younger son.
In an interview with Danish news outlet Extra Bladet, Prince Joachim expressed his concern for his children, stating that it is distressing to see them caught in a situation they do not comprehend.
These potential changes in the monarchy have sparked discussions about the future of the royal family.
Will we witness significant transformations?
And do Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Sussexes, have any prospects of rejoining the monarchy?
