The Markles of Montecito have found themselves on the outs in Hollywood, as they were noticeably absent from the Oprah celebration.
It seems that nobody wants to risk being the subject of a tell-all book or a Netflix mockumentary, like Courtney Cox or Beyonce, by associating with the Markles.
While Oprah Winfrey wisely declined the offer to be Lilibet’s godmother, Tyler Perry stepped up to take on the role.
When Prince Harry and Meghan reached out to Tyler Perry shortly after Lilibet’s birth, the conversation did not flow as smoothly as expected.
Sensing something amiss, Perry asked the couple what was going on.
It was during this exchange that Harry and Meghan asked Perry to be the godfather to Lilibet, a position that carries great significance within the royal family.
Traditionally, the role of godparents is not bestowed upon celebrities when it comes to the royal family.
However, just as the couple broke protocol by keeping Archie’s godparents a secret and refusing to confirm leaked names, Prince Harry and Meghan chose someone they believed would serve as a positive influence in Lilibet’s life.
Initially, Perry was taken aback by the offer to become godfather, responding with a simple “woah.”
After reflecting on the responsibility, he happily accepted, stating, “I’d be honored, absolutely honored.”
With that, Lilibet gained an adult figure who would be a constant presence, offering guidance, support, and celebrating her milestones from childhood to adulthood.
Following his conversation with the Sussexes, Perry began contemplating the formalities associated with being a godfather to a royal.
If accepting the role meant attending Lilibet’s baptism in the UK alongside the royal family, Perry was hesitant.
Seeking clarification, he contacted Prince Harry and Meghan once again, asking if they would have to go through the process in a church with the royals.
Perry expressed his reluctance, suggesting an alternative of a private ceremony in the US.
While it remains unclear whether the christening has taken place, Tyler Perry dropped hints about the involvement of the royal family.
However, it is important to note that just because Perry was asked to be the godfather does not necessarily mean that the baptism has occurred.
He declined to participate in a church baptism, preferring to be known as Uncle Tyler, akin to Aunt Ellen.
Although he cares deeply for baby Lilibet, Perry’s role as godfather is not official in the traditional sense.
It seems that he will have no further involvement with Meghan and Harry in the future.
The choice of godparents holds great significance, as they are meant to guide a child’s spiritual life and foster their Christian identity, rather than simply furthering their Hollywood career.
Markle’s approach to selecting godparents and wedding guests who are not family or close associates but rather celebrity icons has drawn criticism.
Some argue that it diminishes the sanctity of the role and mocks her professed faith, as she has seemingly adopted different religious practices throughout her life.
In the end, the Markles of Montecito may find themselves increasingly excluded from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, while Tyler Perry embraces his newfound role as Lilibet’s godfather.
Only time will tell how this unconventional choice will shape the young princess’s life and spiritual journey.
