According to royal biographer Tom Bauer, Meghan Markle has accused Victoria Beckham of indiscretion, leading to a rift between the two friends.
In an interview with The Sun, Bauer claimed that Meghan’s accusations sparked an uncomfortable phone call between Prince Harry and David Beckham, who were also close friends.
Bauer alleges that Meghan and Harry were consumed by negative press coverage and spent hours reading newspaper articles and scrolling through social media.
Meghan reportedly believed that Victoria was leaking stories to the press, which prompted Harry to confront David about the possibility.
In his book Revenge, Bauer writes, “Every night they scoured the internet to read the newspaper reports and the trolls posting on social media.
Irrationally, they grouped the two together and fed each other’s frenzy about the media.”
Bauer suggests that Harry’s emotional instability fueled Meghan’s fears that their friends were betraying them by leaking stories.
Specifically, she suspected Victoria Beckham.
Harry then called David Beckham to relay the accusation, but the former soccer star denied it, causing damage to their relationship.
The author also claims that Meghan and Harry were not particularly fond of the Beckhams, despite their previous friendly interactions.
Bauer writes, “Harry and Meghan were equally puzzled and irritated by Victoria and David Beckham’s rush to associate themselves with the royals.”
It is worth noting that the Beckhams were among the fortunate few who received invites to Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding.
However, their absence from the evening after-party raised eyebrows at the time, given the depth of their friendship.
Months after the wedding, details emerged explaining a possible reason why the Beckhams received no invites to the after-party.
A news outlet attributed this to a falling out between the two couples, which apparently began in 2017.
The source claimed that it revolved around an interview Meghan gave in May 2017, where she stated that she would not wear Victoria’s designs because they didn’t fit her well.
Meghan attributed the ill fit to her shorter torso not supporting the silhouette seamlessly.
Victoria Beckham, who believed that she and Meghan could become friends due to the bond between their partners, felt hurt and appalled by the actress’ words.
Her attempts to reconcile also failed.
It was reported that Meghan declined to wear the numerous custom-designed outfits the brand sent her.
According to a source, Victoria personally reached out to Meghan and even penned a letter to the Duchess in an effort to understand if there was a deeper reason for the snub.
However, these claims from unidentified sources had several loopholes.
The tension between the two women seemingly escalated in 2018, just before Meghan Markle’s royal wedding.
Sources reported that the actress turned on Victoria over free dresses.
Allegedly, Meghan expressed her desire to wear clothing from the Posh brand, but Victoria offered the attire at a discount rather than for free.
This refusal to provide free clothes due to personal policies created a rift in their once-flourishing relationship.
The source further claimed that Meghan accused Victoria of selling stories about her to the press, prompting David Beckham to intervene and resolve the situation through an awkward phone call.
While the calls may have cleared the air and resolved their differences to some extent, it is evident that Meghan Markle and Victoria Beckham’s friendship has been strained.
The accusations and misunderstandings surrounding leaked stories and fashion choices have created a divide between the two women, highlighting the complexities of maintaining friendships within the public eye.
