Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly at odds over Meghan’s secret meetings to discuss a potential spin-off of the popular Netflix series, The Crown, which would focus solely on their lives.
The sixth series of The Crown recently premiered on Netflix, and prior to its release, it was revealed that the Prince and Princess of Wales felt violated by the show’s portrayal of Princess Diana’s death and the blossoming romance between Kate Middleton and Prince William during their university days.
Now, sources claim that Meghan’s plans for a spin-off could further aggravate her in-laws.
As the couple embarks on their £80 million Netflix deal, signed in 2020, Meghan is allegedly considering approaching the creators of The Crown with her idea.
Heat magazine reports that she wants to pitch a new Netflix show that would feature actors portraying her and Prince Harry, highlighting their departure from the British monarchy and their efforts to redefine royal traditions.
According to the magazine, Meghan hopes to meet with The Crown writer and producer Peter Morgan, as she believes he possesses the talent to create a captivating series showcasing their charity work around the world.
The insider added that Meghan envisions a tense and dramatic story about how they risked everything to help others.
However, while Meghan is enthusiastic about the project, Harry is said to be concerned.
He fears that such a venture could subject them to increased scrutiny, similar to when they were parodied on South Park.
Harry is cautious about turning their personal experiences into a movie or TV show, especially since he has expressed regrets about certain aspects of his life in his book.
The source emphasized that Harry cannot bear any more public humiliation.
Despite Meghan’s eagerness, it is highly unlikely that Peter Morgan would seriously consider a meeting with the couple.
He has previously stated that he believes the show should not progress too close to real-time events.
Critics argue that this is just another one of Meghan’s failed endeavors, comparing it to her previous projects such as Pearl, Bodyguard 2, The Real Housewives, Kardashian collabs, Audible, and Dior.
Doubters claim that Meghan lacks the work ethic and determination necessary for success.
Royal commentator Maureen Callaghan has also criticized Harry and Meghan for constantly seeking the spotlight.
She pointed out their desire to overshadow the British royal family and capitalize on their popularity.
Callaghan wrote, “The crown never stood a chance because the Duke and Duchess of Montecito just can’t help hogging the spotlight.”
She further noted that the final season of The Crown, which includes sympathetic depictions of Prince Charles and Prince William, has been overshadowed by Harry’s attempts to portray himself as isolated following Queen Elizabeth’s death.
As Callaghan warns, we can expect to see sensational headlines in People magazine on the eve of the sixth series.
These headlines will likely feature excerpts from the upcoming book Endgame by Omid Scobie, a well-known supporter of Harry and Meghan.
However, sources close to the Sussexes deny any affiliation with Scobie.
