After enduring two weeks of mourning and intense media scrutiny in the UK, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly heading back to their home in Montecito, California.
According to U.S. Weekly, the couple’s hasty departure is not due to any family tensions but rather their longing to be with their children, three-year-old Archie and one-year-old Lilibet, whom they have been separated from.
Following the funeral on Monday, Meghan and Harry are said to be preparing for an immediate return to Montecito, where they will finally be reunited with their young ones after more than two weeks apart.
This has been the longest period of time that the couple has been away from their children.
In the meantime, Archie and Lilibet have been under the care of their grandmother, Doria Ragland, in California.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex embarked on a one-week tour of Europe starting on September 4th, attending various events such as the One Young World Summit in Manchester and the launch of the 2023 Dusseldorf Invictus Games in Germany.
However, their plans took a sudden turn when news of the Queen’s deteriorating health reached them.
Prince Harry immediately rushed to her side, canceling their upcoming engagements and extending their stay in the UK to pay their respects to the late monarch in person.
On Saturday, Prince Harry participated in a deeply emotional vigil at Westminster Hall alongside Prince William and the other six grandchildren of the late 96-year-old Queen.
In a gesture seen as an olive branch to the Sussexes, King Charles III reportedly allowed his second son to wear his military uniform for the occasion.
This was significant as Harry had not been permitted to don his uniform publicly since stepping down as a working member of the royal family.
Despite their absence from public appearances, Archie Harrison and Lilibet Lily Diana had the opportunity to meet their great-grandmother while she was still alive.
In a tribute to his grandmother shared on the Archwells website, Harry expressed the love the Queen had for her great-grandchildren.
The question now arises: Will Harry and Meghan’s decision not to bring Archie and Lily to the UK during this critical time backfire?
Have they missed their only chance to introduce their children to the rest of the family?
