Buckle up, everyone!
Meghan Markle is back in the headlines, and this time it’s because of her half-sister, Samantha Markle, who has launched yet another lawsuit against her.
Samantha claims that Meghan’s alleged defamation has led to significant personal and professional consequences, making her life a living hell.
Grocery shopping?
A nightmare.
Finding a job?
Nearly impossible.
It’s like a never-ending soap opera that keeps us all on the edge of our seats.
Samantha isn’t holding back, accusing Meghan of portraying her as a deceitful, racist fame-seeker.
According to court documents obtained by The Sun, Samantha argues that Meghan’s fabrications have wreaked havoc on her reputation worldwide.
But where did all this drama begin?
It traces back to that explosive Oprah interview in 2021 and the Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” which aired in December 2022.
Those were the moments when Meghan spilled all sorts of tea, and it seems the fallout is far from over.
Back in March, a Florida judge named Charlene Edwards Honeywell dismissed Samantha’s initial case, pointing out that she failed to identify any specific defamatory statements made by Meghan.
That had to sting!
The judge even ruled that the dismissal was with prejudice, meaning Samantha couldn’t just refile her claims later.
But rather than backing down, Samantha’s legal team is back at it, aiming to overturn that decision.
They argue that the judge overlooked potential defamation implied by the omitted facts.
It’s a classic case of not knowing when to quit.
The March ruling was a relief for Meghan, as it prevented a trial that was set to take place in November.
Samantha’s lawsuit seeks at least $75,000 in damages for defamation and defamation by implication.
One of the key points of contention?
Meghan’s claim during the Oprah interview that she grew up as an only child and that Samantha only embraced the Markle name after Meghan began dating Prince Harry.
Judge Honeywell deemed Meghan’s statements about her upbringing to be opinions rather than factual assertions.
As for the name change, the judge found that it was largely true based on the evidence presented.
In a particularly juicy twist, Prince Harry’s comments in the Netflix series blaming British media for spreading hate and lies were deemed irrelevant to Samantha’s case.
Judge Honeywell suggested that this could either be a legal blunder or a desperate attempt to inject unnecessary drama into the proceedings.
Either way, it didn’t do Samantha any favors.
Despite the setbacks, Samantha is not throwing in the towel just yet.
She has filed a new appeal, which seems to be her last-ditch effort following Meghan’s 43rd birthday.
Is that just a coincidence?
We think not!
Her legal team is pushing for an oral hearing to discuss these so-called complex issues, but as of now, nothing has been scheduled.
Meanwhile, while Samantha battles in the courts, Meghan has been busy sharing her emotional journey on CBS News Sunday Morning.
She opened up about her struggles with suicidal thoughts and online harassment during her time as a working royal.
