Rumors surrounding Meghan Markle’s constant criticisms of the royal family have sparked further controversy, with Today host Karl Stefanovic joining the fray.
Known for his outspoken criticism of the Sussexes, Stefanovic referred to the former Suits actress as a D-grade celebrity, slightly misquoting claims made by ABC chair Eta Butros on rival morning show Studio 10.
This comment came during a live cross with Nine News correspondent Tracey Vo, who was reporting from Manchester, England, where Meghan and Prince Harry were set to attend a youth summit.
During her report, Vo outlined the couple’s itinerary in the UK and explained that there were no official plans for them to meet with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, or with the Queen or Prince Charles at Balmoral.
Stefanovic, clearly unimpressed, echoed Butros’ statement, saying, “Eta Butros said they’ve turned into D-grade celebrities.
That’s about right, isn’t it?”
Vo responded, “Well, we’ve been hearing here locally as well, guys, that some people say they’re not welcome here.
There’s a real divide in that support for Prince Harry and Meghan, so we’ll see how tomorrow pans out.”
Reports suggest that measures have been taken to prevent public backlash during the couple’s engagements.
It is alleged that the outside area of the venue is being cleared an hour and a half before their speeches to avoid any potential booing from the crowd.
Furthermore, it is believed that Meghan and Harry are staying at Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate, which is conveniently close to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s new residence at Adelaide Cottage.
The couple’s decision to return to the UK has garnered attention, especially after Meghan’s recent explosive interview with The Cut.
In the interview, she spoke about the challenges of forgiveness and hinted at her ability to speak her mind freely.
Royal expert Christopher Anderson described Harry and Meghan’s trip as a game of “Royal Hide and Seek,” highlighting the potential awkwardness of their proximity to the Cambridges during their stay in Windsor.
Adding to the complexity of the situation is the ongoing protection row.
The Sussexes have reportedly hired their own bodyguards for the trip, as British police will not provide them with security.
This development may not sit well with Meghan, who has previously enjoyed police escorts and the sense of importance they bring.
Additionally, it raises concerns about the couple’s upcoming Netflix reality show.
Despite Meghan’s previous comments about their relationship being lost, Prince Charles has extended an open invitation to Prince Harry.
The Prince of Wales has made it clear that Harry and Meghan are always welcome to stay with him.
A close friend revealed that Charles has been persistent in his efforts to bring his son back into the fold, despite the increasing attacks directed at the royal family.
The insider shared, “Charles hasn’t wavered despite the attacks which seem to be coming with increased vigor.
The Prince of Wales reiterated his invitation for Harry and Meghan and the whole family if they wished to come and stay with him this summer while he’s at his home in the Balmoral estate.
He thought it might be a good opportunity for everyone to take stock and relax, but the invitation was declined.”
As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex navigate their return to the UK, tensions and divisions within the public’s support for the couple continue to surface.
The outcome of their interactions with the royal family and the public’s response to their presence will undoubtedly shape the narrative surrounding Meghan and Harry in the coming days.
