Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, will not receive any special treatment despite enlisting the services of a Hollywood agent to boost her career in the United States.
Markle recently signed with Ari Emanuel, a prominent figure in Hollywood and an executive at the William Morris Endeavor Agency (WME), to promote her business ventures and philanthropic endeavors.
However, her decision has drawn criticism from one-time friend and US celebrity Howie Mandel, who claims that Markle will only be guaranteed one thing from this partnership: paying hefty commission fees.
Mandel, who is familiar with WME as a client himself, revealed that like all other clients represented by the agency, Markle will have to pay a 10% commission on all deals.
It is common practice for major Hollywood talent agencies to charge fees to charities and non-profits, such as Markle’s Archewell foundation, for their services.
Despite her royal connections, Markle is expected to abide by these rules.
Mandel expressed uncertainty about how WME will aid Markle’s career but emphasized that the agency always takes a 10% cut from its clients.
During a backstage interview at America’s Got Talent, Mandel was questioned about Markle’s association with WME.
He admitted, “I don’t know specifically what WME brings to the table for someone like Meghan, but I will tell you that they take 10% off the table for all of us.”
The comedian’s remarks shed light on the financial aspect of Markle’s business dealings with WME.
In a surprising turn of events, a sarcastic remark about Meghan Markle was overheard from a popular WME executive during an upscale dinner in Brentwood.
The executive’s comment was recorded, revealing their perspective on the situation.
They said, “Half sarcastic or not, if the watch or bracelet is on, you can bet that arm is raised for the picture.
They know their client but are happy to take her money and try to make her successful.
That’s why all of her PR efforts have been lackluster and amateurish.
They simply do whatever she asks, get paid, and move on.”
As predicted by the WME executive, Meghan Markle made a fashion statement during an event in Germany.
She chose to wear a 1972 tennis pinky ring from Chiffon & Co, which carries a price tag of $2,800.
This choice garnered attention due to the absence of an engagement ring and the presence of two pinky rings.
The Chiffon & Co ring holds significance as it symbolizes women in sports, aligning with Markle’s support for the Invictus Games.
Interestingly, this decision meant abandoning the controversial Lorraine Schwartz pinky ring that Markle previously wore during a speech at the Invictus Games.
Questions have arisen regarding the origin of the Lorraine Schwartz ring, with conflicting statements from Prince Harry and Meghan.
Initially, they denied claims that the diamonds in the ring were gifted by a mystery donor from the Middle East.
However, they later clarified that they were referring to a different ring, creating confusion and raising suspicions about the true source of the diamond.
The lack of mention of the questioned Lorraine Schwartz ring on Markle’s right hand leaves us wondering if there is something she wishes to conceal about its provenance.
The diamond ring first appeared on her finger in October 2020, but it remains unclear whether she received it while still serving as a working royal or after stepping down from her official duties in early March 2020.
Buckingham Palace only publishes records of gifts received by royals during official duties in the UK or overseas, and there is no public record of Meghan being presented with any diamonds.
In her pursuit of a successful career in the entertainment industry, Meghan Markle must navigate the challenges of Hollywood’s business practices.
