The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, experienced an embarrassing moment recently when a waiter at a restaurant in Dusseldorf completely ignored her.
This incident occurred during a dinner celebration for her husband, Prince Harry’s, 39th birthday.
Despite making a third outfit change of the day, Meghan was left feeling humiliated by the waiter’s lack of recognition.
For the occasion, Meghan donned a red and white pinstriped shirt from the California-inspired brand Doan, which cost £268.
She paired this with the same white skinny jeans from Frame that she had worn earlier in the day to attend a sitting volleyball match between Nigeria and Ukraine.
Completing her look, she opted for beige suede flat pumps from Mandolo Blanique, embellished with a pretty bow detailing.
The couple chose I’m Golden, located in Kessel and part of the brewery Schumacher, as the venue for their fun get-together.
During my interview with the restaurant owner, Thea Ungerman, and waiter, Frank Wackers, some interesting details emerged.
Frank, a 27-year-old waiter, confessed that he didn’t have much knowledge about the royal family.
Initially, he only recognized Prince Harry, mistaking Meghan Markle for a staff member rather than the famous former actress she is.
According to Frank, the group seemed relaxed and enjoyed Schumacher beer, the same beer being served at the Invictus Games.
Throughout the meal, the Duke and Duchess sat next to each other, creating an exciting atmosphere for the restaurant staff.
Frank, who had previously watched Harry’s speech at the Invictus Games, couldn’t believe his luck when the couple entered his restaurant.
He even received a hug from Prince Harry himself.
Frank admitted that he initially failed to recognize Meghan as the Duchess of Sussex due to her simple attire.
He described her dressing style as understated.
At the end of the evening, the couple graciously posed for photos with the restaurant staff, including Thea Ungerman and Frank Weckers, the head waiter who has served at the establishment for an impressive 38 years.
Thea described Prince Harry as a lovely man who seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself.
During the meal, the restaurant staff presented Prince Harry with a birthday cake to celebrate his special day.
Mr. Weckers, who served Harry and his party, revealed that they were served smaller beers, approximately half a pint, in contrast to the larger liter-sized beers typically served by German breweries.
The menu included wiener schnitzel, pork knuckle, sausage, and plates of roast and mashed potato.
Interestingly, Meghan seemed focused solely on the salad and did not indulge in the protein dishes that were ordered.
However, she ultimately did not finish her food.
The restaurant owner disclosed that Prince Harry generously picked up the bill and left a substantial tip for the staff.
While the exact amount was not specified, it can be assumed that the tip exceeded the norm.
In Germany, for a bill of around 24 euros, a typical citizen would leave a tip ranging from 26 to 27 euros.
A more frugal individual might give 25 euros, while a very generous person might round up to 30 euros.
Any amount above 30 euros would be considered exceptionally generous.
