Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has recently made headlines for allegedly making audacious demands in an attempt to rival Princess Kate.
The former actress, who relocated to the UK with Prince Harry in 2017, is said to have requested better accommodation during her time as a member of the royal family.
In a Netflix docuseries featuring the couple, Meghan expressed her disappointment with the modesty of her first home, Nottingham Cottage, which was gifted to them by Prince Harry.
Desiring a more regal dwelling, she reportedly approached the palace about securing a suite within the grandeur of Windsor Castle.
Royal expert Kinsey Schofield shed light on the matter during an interview with GB News.
According to Schofield, Meghan sought to share living space with the Queen herself but was denied for various reasons.
One concern raised was the potential invasion of their privacy during the walking tours of Windsor Castle, which are available to tourists.
Schofield also revealed that Meghan’s request was influenced by her comparison to the possessions of the Duchess of Cambridge at the time.
With Prince William and Kate residing in the lavish Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace, which spans four full floors, Meghan aimed to attain a similarly prestigious residence.
The luxurious apartment was bestowed upon William and Kate as a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth II in 2011.
Before moving in, it underwent extensive renovations.
In contrast, Harry and Meghan’s Nottingham Cottage paled in comparison to their expectations.
The couple humorously referred to it as a “hut” during their Netflix show, highlighting its diminutive size.
Nottingham Cottage, though quaint, did not meet Meghan’s aspirations for a truly royal abode.
Consequently, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex embarked on a £2.4 million renovation project for the Crown Estate-owned property between 2018 and 2019.
Initially, the cost was partially covered by taxpayers through the Sovereign Grant, but Prince Harry eventually paid the remaining balance.
While Meghan’s desire for opulence is understandable given her new role in the royal family, her pursuit of a Windsor suite has sparked controversy.
Critics argue that her demands were excessive and out of touch with the realities of royal life.
As a result, the Duchess of Sussex faced disappointment when her request was denied.
