Experts in royal affairs are engaged in a heated debate over Meghan Markle’s unexpected presence on stage with Prince Harry during a recent polo awards ceremony.
Critics argue that her participation seemed unanticipated and somewhat uneasy.
The discussion surrounding Markle’s awkward appearance was brought up during an episode of Sky News Australia’s The Rita Panahi Show, where royal commentator and spectator writer Cara Kennedy joined host Rita Panahi to delve into the matter.
Panahi expressed her confusion over Markle’s presence on stage, questioning why she was there when Prince Harry and his polo team were receiving their awards.
Panahi pointed out that based on the clip, it seemed as though no one was acknowledging Markle.
“What’s going on here?
What’s she doing on stage?”
Panahi pondered.
The TV presenter also highlighted a moment when Markle attempted to grab something from one of Prince Harry’s teammates, but the man did not give it to her.
Panahi described the situation as “a catastrophe” and “very embarrassing” for the image-conscious couple, seeking an explanation from Kennedy.
Kennedy responded by explaining that the incident occurred after Prince Harry had won a trophy at an event held at the Santa Barbara Polo Club.
Reflecting on Markle’s behavior, Kennedy remarked, “It’s interesting because I’ve been talking a lot in the past two months about the press crusade that Harry embarked on after his memoir Spare, and how important it is for Meghan to maintain a balanced presence.”
She continued, emphasizing that Markle typically tries to seize the spotlight whenever possible, even in situations unrelated to her.
Kennedy noted that it was evident Markle was not meant to be on stage and that the whole situation was undeniably awkward.
Furthermore, Kennedy pointed out that Prince Harry was surrounded by his teammates during the ceremony, indicating that it was not a deliberate PR opportunity.
However, Markle may have seen it differently.
Kennedy also highlighted Markle’s absence when Prince Harry was promoting his book earlier in the year, suggesting that she deliberately distanced herself from that particular PR campaign.
Kennedy concluded, “Whereas stuff like this, where he’s trying to do his own thing and engage in local sports with a team of teenagers, she just can’t help but insert herself into the picture.”
Entertainment Tonight shared a clip from the event, noting that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex displayed affectionate behavior.
Markle kissed the other players on both cheeks and gave her husband a passionate smack on the lips.
Later, she was seen wiping lipstick off Prince Harry’s face.
This display of affection raised questions among observers.
Why was she kissing them?
Why was she positioned prominently on stage?
Was she a member of the team or involved in any managerial capacity?
The answers to these questions remained unclear, making the situation all the more perplexing.
The presence of other wives or girlfriends on stage, engaging in similar displays of affection, was notably absent.
This peculiar scenario left many bewildered.
The young men on stage appeared confused by Markle’s actions, questioning why she was still present.
Despite her face being obscured by the young man she attempted to steal the box from, Markle persisted in pushing her way to the front.
Even Prince Harry seemed perplexed, as he asked her to move aside while he held the prize aloft, aware that he was blocking her from view.
The discomfort Prince Harry felt towards Markle’s behavior around his teammates was palpable, evident not only in this incident but also in the Netflix documentary.
It is becoming increasingly apparent that Harry may be growing annoyed with her constant need for attention.
