Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, and her half-sister, Samantha Markle, have been vocal about their relationship with her ever since she started dating Prince Harry back in 2016.
Their criticism of Meghan escalated after she responded to their constant attacks in an interview with CBS in March 2021.
During the conversation, Meghan confessed, “I grieve a lot.
I mean, my dad passed away.
I lost a child.
I almost forgot my name.
There is, after all, the loss of identity.”
In an interview with Good Morning Britain, Thomas expressed his disappointment, saying, “She’s pretty much ghosted all of her family, on both her mother’s side and mine.”
He added that if Meghan had kept them close, she would have had their support.
Thomas also acknowledged that everyone makes mistakes.
Following Meghan’s tell-all interview with CBS, Samantha spoke with Inside Edition about her sister.
She argued that being depressed was not a valid reason for treating people poorly and discarding them.
However, during the CBS interview, Meghan did not delve much into her relationship with her father or half-sister.
Instead, she praised her mother, Doria Ragland, in an additional clip from the conversation, stating that Doria had silently supported her throughout the years, despite the criticisms from Thomas, Samantha, the public, and the British media.
Meghan also claimed that the palace did not protect her from these assaults and accused them of perpetuating false rumors, such as the one about her making Duchess Kate cry before her wedding to Prince Harry.
Thomas Markle’s first marriage to Roslyn Loveless resulted in two children: Samantha and Thomas Markle Jr. Meghan was born two years after Thomas’ divorce from Roslyn when he married yoga instructor Doria Ragland in 1979.
However, Thomas and Doria divorced in 1987.
The relationship between Meghan and the Markle family has been strained for a long time, and it worsened after she gave birth to her children, Archie and Lily, without informing her father.
In 2018, Thomas commented on his daughter’s character amidst rumors of tension between Meghan and Kate.
He told the Mail on Sunday, “The Meghan I knew always had a good heart and was giving.
She was never rude, but she was always demanding.”
He expressed concern for her well-being, saying, “I don’t want to say or do anything to damage my daughter, but I worry she’s going to injure herself.”
Samantha Markle also shared her thoughts on Meghan and Harry’s decision to step back from their roles as senior royals in January 2020.
She described it as a “slap in the face” and criticized their lack of consideration for the British royal family and their initial commitments.
Meanwhile, Thomas expressed his frustration with their choice, stating, “It’s frustrating to me because she genuinely got every girl’s dream.
Every little girl dreamed of being a princess, and now that she has achieved that goal, she is discarding it.
She appears to be throwing that away in exchange for cash.”
Thomas went on to compare the royal family to a cult in an interview with The Sun, saying, “They are either like the Stepford family or Scientologists.
They simply lock the doors if they hear someone speak.
They must speak up.”
It is worth noting that claims about the Church of Scientology being a cult have been refuted.
The ongoing criticism and public feuds between Meghan and her family have undoubtedly added to the complexities of her life as a former senior royal.
Despite the challenges, Meghan remains resilient, determined to forge her own path alongside Prince Harry.
