Meghan Markle’s participation in the upcoming 2023 Invictus Games in Dusseldorf, Germany, has been thrown into uncertainty.
A spokesperson for the Sussexes initially confirmed that Meghan would be joining her husband, Prince Harry, at the Games.
However, a recent statement from an Invictus Games spokesman to German media suggests otherwise.
According to T-Online, Meghan was originally scheduled to moderate the Closing Ceremony of the Games, alongside presenter Hadnet Tesfai.
The plan was for the Duchess of Sussex to personally moderate the stories of war-disabled competitors and their families.
However, this information is no longer available on the Invictus Games website, raising questions about Meghan’s involvement.
On the English version of the website, Meghan’s role was mentioned until recently.
It stated that she would co-host a segment with Hadnet Tesfai, where competitors would discuss what home means to them.
Following this, the Duchess of Sussex was expected to deliver a closing speech and provide a preview of the upcoming Invictus Games.
When asked about Meghan’s absence from the Games schedule, an event spokesperson explained to T-Online that the English version had contained an error.
Furthermore, Meghan’s name is nowhere to be found in the updated schedule on the Invictus Games website, adding to the confusion surrounding her involvement.
Speculation has arisen regarding the reasons behind Meghan’s potential exclusion.
In a recent YouTube video by HG Tudor titled “She Wasn’t Wanted,” it is suggested that the German Ministry of Defence firmly declined Meghan’s spokesperson’s insistence on her participation in a live interview for German media.
It appears that Meghan’s persistence and demands, including transportation arrangements, may have caused friction and led to her being sidelined.
Rumors have also circulated in gossip magazines, claiming that Meghan has been making extravagant demands for her visit to the Games.
Allegedly, she has requested specific meal plans, particular air temperatures, custom linens and decor for her hotel, as well as chauffeur-driven limousines for transportation.
The former actress seems to be leaving no stone unturned, even contemplating whether to fly privately or not.
This isn’t the first time Meghan has faced setbacks in her attempts to secure a role at the Invictus Games.
Her and her agency, WME, have reportedly made unsuccessful attempts to gain media attention and relevance for the Duchess.
It is possible that the Invictus Foundation took into account feedback from those who expressed concerns about Meghan’s involvement.
Prince Harry, the founder of the Invictus Games, has also faced criticism recently.
His speech on Heart of Invictus, where he claimed lack of support from the British people, media, and Armed Forces for veterans returning from Afghanistan, received backlash.
These controversies may have contributed to the need for the Games organizers to distance themselves from the Sussexes.
As the Invictus Games draw closer, the uncertainty surrounding Meghan Markle’s role continues.
Whether she will ultimately participate or not remains to be seen.
The Games are eagerly anticipated, and spectators and participants alike await further updates on this matter.
