The Prince and Princess of Wales have announced their plans to travel to Singapore later this year for the final of Prince William’s Environmental Award, known as the Earthshot Prize.
The couple will be heading to the Southeast Asian country in November, where the third annual awards ceremony will take place.
Five winners of the Earthshot Prize 2023 will be awarded £1 million during the event.
The ceremony promises to be a star-studded affair, with performances by renowned musicians and artists.
The announcement of the royal couple’s trip was teased on their official Twitter page, where they posted a question, “Where’s the Earthshot Prize heading to in 2023?”
accompanied by two eyes and a poll.
The poll revealed the answer, “We’ll tell you tomorrow.”
This created anticipation and excitement among their followers, leading to speculation about the destination.
Interestingly, following Prince William’s announcement, leaked information from Megan’s agency, WME, revealed that she is also planning a trip to Singapore.
It is unclear whether this is a coincidence or an attempt to upstage the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Some speculate that Megan may be seeking to overshadow the Wales family, reminiscent of William and Catherine’s trip for Earthshot in the US last year.
This wouldn’t be the first time Megan has made a similar move, as she accompanied Harry to the Ripple of Hope Human Rights Award.
Although the Earthshot Prize ceremony is scheduled for November, it remains uncertain if Megan’s trip is directly linked to the event.
WME, Megan’s agency, is reportedly advising the Sussexes on this matter.
Since Harry and Megan’s departure from the British royal family, there has been a notable silence from the royal family, including Harry’s own relatives.
This has led to speculation that Megan’s planned trip could be seen as a retaliation against the family for neglecting her wedding anniversary.
In addition to the announcement of the Prince and Princess of Wales’ trip, their third wedding anniversary created several significant headlines.
Princess Beatrice announced her first pregnancy, while Kate, Harry’s sister-in-law, attended a highly publicized event at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, continued their tour of Northern Ireland, and Catherine and Prince William were set to embark on a tour of Scotland.
However, the royal family completely ignored Harry and Megan’s anniversary.
Regarding the Earthshot Prize, Prince William stated, “The Earthshot Prize is all about showing the world that solutions to some of the biggest environmental challenges we face are out there.”
He expressed his delight that the prize ceremony will be held in Singapore, where the groundbreaking solutions of the 2023 finalists will be celebrated.
The Earthshot Prize, launched in 2020 with the help of the Royal Foundation, holds great significance for Prince William, as it aims to address environmental issues and was inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s moonshot program in the 1960s.
This year’s awards ceremony will be accompanied by a series of events as part of the first-ever Earthshot Week.
Last year’s ceremony, held in Boston, saw guests arriving in hybrid vehicles and encouraged to wear vintage recycled or reusable clothing.
Kate, who presented an award, made a fashion statement by wearing a rented lime green Solace London dress from the fashion platform Her, paired with an emerald choker worn by Princess Diana.
It is evident that the Earthshot Prize holds a special place in Prince William’s heart, as he played a pivotal role in launching the Global Initiative in 2020.
With the upcoming ceremony in Singapore, Prince William aims to showcase impactful ideas and innovations that can address the pressing environmental challenges of our time.
